Allergy Sufferers? What Allergy Meds?
Help! What allergy meds do you take?
I used to take Tylenol Sinus Allergy, but even pre-surgery it was hard on my stomach, so I am afraid to take it now.
Last Friday I had to leave work 1/2 day early because my sinus pain was so bad. My eyes were tearing like I was crying, my whole face hurt, and I just couldn't get away from the pain. I finally came home, stood in the hot shower for 20 minutes, and then fell asleep for 5 hours. Normally things don't get this bad for me til mid-May. This is really early to start the allergy season, and with my new position at work, I can't afford to leave work when I get a bad sinus attack. Nor can I go use the netti pot that is an occassional relief item for me.
Suggestions anyone?

I take Tylenol sinus when I am in the condition you described above. But I also take an allergy med everyday. I have been taking Clariten redi-tab (Melts in your mouth) but the allergies this year are killing me. I will switch to Allegra D which is what I lived on until it spiked my BP. Since surgery my BP is awesome so I no longer need to worry about it. I need something to get me over the hump It is really really bad this year for everyone.
I hope you feel better.

I'm sorry things are so ouchy right now, Tracey. :( Do you take allergy meds other than the tylenol? I use Zyrtec-D when I am having sinus issues. Could you take the tylenol with an antacid to buffer it a little? I would maybe go to a pharmacy and ask the pharmacist what they recommend. I hope you're feeling better soon.

I used to use Tylenol Sinus but one day I used plain Ibuprophen and it worked great. I was surprised to say the least.
I use a prescription nasal spray every day though so I rarely get sinus headaches these days.

I have never heard of a sinus medication with tylenol in it causing stomach problems unless there is ibuprophen in it. You might want to read the label.
If your allergies/sinuses are that bad, you should do 2 things. The first thing is you should go to an allergist and get tested for your allergies and possibly get allergy shots. They have saved my life. I am allergic to dogs, cats, grass, trees, ragweed, dustmites, molds and I can't remember the last one. My allergist is the best. I used to be so allergic to dogs and cats that I couldn't even go in a house with one or I would have an asthma attack and now I can even play with them. Since getting sick in October and having multiple surgeries, my allergist wouldn't give me my shots all this time and I have been fine. I do take my allergy pills and all I have is a runny nose. I can live with that. I was just on once per month maintainance at thist point anyway. I hope to go back soon to get back to where I left off.
As far as the allergy pill that I took, it was xyzal and it worked great. It is a tiny pill and I recommend it highly. It is a prescription. For me that is a good thing, so my insurance pays for it. I actually think it is the only prescription allergy medication left.

There is something in that Tyl Sinus that doesnt agree with me. I take generic zyrtec and use a saline rinse in my nose daily. It is working well. I was on zyrtec-d every day thru the winter and decided to try the saline. I cant remember the name but it's in one of those new nozzled bottles and if you tip your head it's th same result as a netti.
Hope you find some quik relief!

You should be able to take regular sudafed for the sinus pressure, I still take it when I need it but I also take Xyzal for my severe allergies, to me it has been a LIFE SAVER. I suffer with EXTREME allergies and break out with hives for no apparent reasons, no I have not been allergy tested, but when I take my Xyzal within 5 minutes in my system it is working.
With your sinuses so bad, it may be time to see the Doc, could also be an infection?
****Oh my DS#2, has such ssevere allergies (tested) he takes Zyrtec,Singulair, and Nasonex and he is still having a hard time this year. Good Luck

thanks all.
I have been tested twice for allergies, including both scratch test and blood test. The doctor was incredulous. I am slightly allergic to every tree that grows in our area, plus every grass, as well as mold and dust mites. But since my allergies to each is so slight, allergy shots are not a solution to the problem, according to the ENT.
Because so many sinus meds cause me to have a racing heart (weird, most people fall asleep, I get the opposite reaction), I am VERY careful. That's why I was sticking with Tylenol S/A. I use a saline spray all the time, and you're right it works. Just not enough right now.
thanks again for the suggestions. I will see if my PCP can get samples of the meds mentioned.

Are you on a nasal spray like Flonase or Zyrtec? I'm not actually "allergic" to much but particles in the air bug me and give me allergy-like symptoms and flonase works wonders.
