So finally after a year of battling with Tricare, I got my approval and am scheduled for next Friday!, yeah! Any advice to prep for surgery? Did you all have to do only liquid the week prior?

Congratulations!!! I'm really happy for you. An dang year?

I didn't have to do a liquid diet except for the day before and then bowel prep. All docs seem to have their own "creative" approaches to prep.

Hurray.  Finally, a year, really?????

I had to do a 4 week liquid diet with one small food meal a day, then clear liquids the day before surgery.  Although I wasn't happy while doing it, I do think it went a long way towards preparing me for what was to come.

Wow - a year?  That's a long time and I'm sure you're very excited to finally have it happening!

Congrats!

I didn't have to do a liquid diet, but more of an atkins diet.

Congrats! Thank goodness, after a year!!!

I had to do a 2 week liquid diet preop.

Make sure you have lots of protein samples, everything at first tastes funny, then it does get better. Vitalady was a lifesaver, and has lots of other things too.
See if you also can order some chewable vitamin samples.
Start walking a little everyday.
Dont forget chapstick! It was the only thing I really used in the hospital, bedsides my slippers.
Then at home make sure you have what you need in your pantry to start you new postop journey!
Like broth jello, sugar free popsicles, etc.

Good luck!

I had two weeks of liquids only....mainly protein shakes and non chunky soups. The first week was really tough, but was feeling better (not much of an appetite) by the second week. Plus I lost 10 pounds those two weeks so it was a great way to kick off this journey.  Congrats to you!!

I did not have to fight Tricare at all, I am suprised. My program required 2 WK liquid diet, a talk with the Nut and a talk with the psyche, after 4 mo, I was in surgery. Good Luck!

It took me a year to get all the pre-op testing done. (VA of Brooklyn was my tricare provider at the time. Everything took three appointments to get done. Like 3 appointments to Respitory clinic in order to get an appointment for sleep study, It was incredible, but I stuck with it and got it done.) After everything was in Tricare (Health Net) approved me in less than a week.
My doctor had me on Carnation Instant Breakfast  in skim milk for 3 weeks prior to surgery. I felt I was going to be one of those whom the surgery did not work for because I only lost 5 pounds. But here I am 90 pounds lighter and happy as a clam.
Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

Good luck!!  What type of surgery are you having?

I had a 2 week liquid diet but I could have 1 low-carb meal a day.  I started out mixing the protein with water and got the shakes so I changed to mixing it with fat free milk and it made all the difference in the world.  It was still hard but I felt so much better.

My only advice would be to start walking a little now and try to keep it up and go a little further every day so you will be in as good shape as you can prior to your surgery.

Keep us updated on your progress.
