Oh I do want a normal RNY.  I just heard about the mini RNY and it says about it that it only takes 30 mins to preform and that it is reversable.  but after more research and the things I have read on here.  I am confident in my original decision.

I had had 2 c-sections and open gall bladder so my surgeon thought mine might take longer due to scar tissue but it only took around 1 - 1 1/2 hours.

I studied all types of WLS and was going to do Lapband, but had two surgeons tell me that was not the WLS that I needed with Type 2 diabetes and the amount of weight that I needed to lose.  My surgeon only did lapband, Sleeve and RNY.  He told me he could refer me to a DS surgeon if I wanted to do that.  My insurance would only pay for Lapband, RNY & DS.  I decided to go with the surgeon closest to my parents so I could stay with them.  I know that the sleeve and DS are great surgeries also.  I would do lots of research to see what type of surgery you need for your eating and lifestyle.  Gina(MajorMom) has posted the types of surgeries and what type eating habits you have that would be best for that type of surgery.  I love sweets so RNY was good for me except that I have to eat alot to dump.  Wi**** was less(sometimes)!!

Good luck and keep us updated.

"The MGB was developed by Dr. Rutledge in the Carolinas."

I'm sure that's what he tells people, but it's not actually true. This is a very old surgery that used to be done back when stomach stapling and other variants that have been abandoned due to poor results and high complication rates were also being done. But the results were just as horrible as with those other ancient and abandoned surgeries.

For some reason Dr. Rutledge has decided to do this and only this operation and to advertise it like it's new and the greatest thing since sliced bread. He's a total con artist and it saddens me that people don't do enough research to figure this out.

Also, I think he's lost his license in at least some states so I'm not even sure he's still a doctor.
