Hospitalization caused my scale to make a U-turn....WTH

Ok, I am pretty reasonable about how weight loss slows over time. But last week I weighed 167 and then went into the hospital for a week, I was given, fluids, meds, prednisone and now I weigh 174. Can I be angry or what? I didn't eat for most of my stay because I was too sick and on clear liquids which for me was plain water. By the day 3 or 4 I ventured to some strands of hospital backed chicken. I feel horrible now working out and still taking the steroids which I am told just blow you up. The good part is that's only for two more days.

I guess I am just venting but I am sure surgery and hospitalization can stunt anyone's weight loss. Has anyone had a similar experience and how do you stay focused?

I was in for 24 hrs a few weeks ago.  Didn't eat for one whole day and ate very little the rest of the time and didn't lose any.  I didn't have fluids either.
Your's is probably the steroids and the fluids.  It will come back off.  Not to worry.

Glad you are home.  Hope you are better soon.

I'm completely the opposite, I went in for a week because of complications from my gall bladder, was not able to eat at all for 5 days and was pumped full of so many fluids and I so far have lost 10 pounds. Maybe it is the steroids and when you come off of them your weight may drop again. Good Luck

Gal bladder....ooh I hear about those complications a lot. Glad you recovered. I see you are close to goal too. I think seeing the last 20 pounds go up after all the effort did bother me but I am trying to focus. Thanks for your encouragement.

I had hernia surgery on Friday and I was there for 2 days. The only things I ate there was some beef on Friday night, some of an omelette on Saturday morning and a protein drink I brought. I was on IV fluids. I came home Saturday and I had gained 14 lbs from my lowest. Talk about depressing. It took a few days but I have lost all but about .2 lbs.

Bummer.  Just ignore the numbers for a couple of weeks.  You're healing now, concentrate on taking care of yourself and getting back to normal.  It's hard, but focus anywhere but the scale right now.
