Liz, I ran HijackThis and can't even get a log of the scan. My system is denying the function. I'm afraid to reboot again. Running at 70% RAM. Joined the security forum on TechGuy.

When I do run the HiJack scan I see many Services files are missing.

It may be Norton denying it.

Try being offline, turn Norton off and see if you can get a copy then.

Glad you joined TSG but sorry for the reason.

All I see on Norton is disable firewall and disable virus protection, no way turn it off.

When I have problems like that I do a system restore followed by malwarebytes.com. Has worked for me so far.

That works about 75% of the time but there is stuff out there that survives a system restore and rebooting will make it worse.

Have to be careful doing these things.

VSG on 02/15/11 with

1. Use Task Manager to see what is running. Reboot and check again. You might have a program hung up and running in the background.
2. Check your firewall and see if the settings are still right. I discovered I got a nasty that unchecked all my CVE tests that normally run. EEK! You ARE using a firewall in addition to your malware checker, yes?
3. Check your security logs for suspicious activity.
4. Call a friend who lives in MD and have her come over and check your machine. She works for Starbucks lattes and cauliflower puree, I hear.
