I usually just have a water w/ crystal lite in it before I start out and drink some of it. I believe you should probably eat something, but I'm afraid it would make me sick. I know after you get through you should have some protein or something like a banana.
Diana(Mythintime) or someone on the daily fitness thread would be the person to asked this question to. Several of them run a lot. I mostly walk/jog so mine is not as hard on my knees.
Congratualtions on doing the 5K. The last one I did, I was exhausted when I got through and I had a water and a banana and then felt a little better.
