In so much Pain

In the past week I have been so miserable.  My pouch area inside really hurts. Every day the pain is getting worse.  The pain is even worse when I try to drink or eat anything. I did call the surgeon's office.  Of course my surgeon is in surgery all day.  I have been under a huge amount of stress over the past week.  They said I should start taking my prilosec twice a day and see if that helps.  The nurse says I might have just irritated my pouch because of the stress and crying or it could be an ulcer or something else.

I am pretty miserable today.  Of course I am now out of my prilosec so I called to get my refill and now my insurance is needing a prior authorization on it after I have been on this medication for months.

Kim - I'm so sorry to hear you're having pain.  I know what its like to have to beg to get your prescription refilled!  I've been taking Prevacid for 2 1/2 years and still have to jump through hoops to get it filled....

I will recommend eating some Tums.  They seem to help for me when my pouch is irritated, especially if I'm out of Prevacid.  It may just be temporary, but may help.

It does sound like an ulcer of sorts... when can they get you in?

I dealt with the same thing and it was a small ulcer, I was taking Nexium and carafate and will say that the carafate helped tremendously. Now I just take the nexium daily. Tums may help alot, what about the possibility of picking up some OTC nexium or prilosse****il your prescription comes in. I know it is a bit pricy but your stomach needs the help. Good Luck and I hope you feel better really soon.

I also had to go back on my Prilosec early out and I still take it at 2 1/2 years out.  I couldn't even drink water and my tummy made terrible noises.  Sometimes when we get worked up things do get worse.  Do you take the prilosec twice a day?  That's the only time I have to get approval.

I had to jump through hoops last time also and they finally approved it for 6 months.  Until they did, I went and got some over the counter generic stuff that was cheaper than the brand name but more than tums.  It worked.
Hopefully your Dr will get you in soon and see what is going on.  Pain isn't normal.

Hugs for you.

So sorry Kim. I hope you get that approval soon so you can get back on track. Prilosec seems to help tremendously. Hope that is what is bothering your pouch and not an ulcer.
Take care and keep us all posted.

Kim, hope you feel better soon.  My surgeon gave me Carafate when mine got upset and that really helped fast.  I now take the over the counter generic for prevacid everyday and it works fine for me.

Good luck.
