Temptations on OH!

I was unexpectedly blind-sided when I logged onto OH this morning.  The advertising banner across the top of my screen to the right of the OH banner was for See's Candy!  Dang those huge yummy filled chocolate dipped Easter eggs! I started salivating immediately!  I know temptations will always be a daily part of my life, but it's a struggle for me every day to avoid situations that trigger poor choices.   I'm normally more of a lurker than poster on these message boards, but when I saw the ad here on OH I felt it was so wrong on so many levels that I just had to say something. 

P.S.  Since I don't post often I just want to also say that I am eternally grateful to all of you who post on a regular basis (especially here on the Lightweights board).  There are a lot of great people here and so many of you have been an inspiration and guiding force to me over the past few years!

And you're SO right - I too have seen some ads on OH here that made me go "huh, REALLY?"...

I guess to them - money is money....  shame on them!

Jody, i am so with you! I have seen ads for cakes, candies and even pizza. Seems to me if you are gonna advertise, please dont do it on a weight LOSS support area.... Dang those temptations.

I've never notice but now that you brought my attention to it....LOL

I'm glad you posted!!!  It's good to hear from lurkers occasionally and to hear that our LW board has helped you.  Sometimes I think I just write the same things over and over again.

This topic has been discussed on some other sites too! I found out that the ads at the top have to do with WE put in our posts and what you google etc on the web!! The ads are from Google Adsense and places like that. So, if I post on a thread about WLS friendly desserts, or somebody mentions eating the toppings off the top of a pizza nad I answer,etc then those ads will pop up and be advertised to me specifically! Isn't that crazy?!? I had no idea that, that is how ads get up here, until somebody else posted about it!! It will also pop up ads about what you have googled etc, like if you looked up a recipe about chicken and a pizza recipe was on the same page etc, you will get an ad for pizza......

Don't you think that's really creepy?  I like attention, but I don't like to be watched.  I guess I need to be careful not to type Pizza.  Opps.  Darn!  Pizza Hut wants me.

 I find it a little creepy (and a lot like Big Brother) that google can tailor its ads to what they think we are interested in.  That said, how come my email if full of sexy senior singles (I'm happily married) and lots of ads for increasing penis size? LOL

Good to see you posting. Interesting post. So we could see ads for Victoria's Secret, Talbot's, Lady Footlocker, etc. if we just mention them in our posts. Hmmm....Vitalady needs to sign up for google ads...just sayin'. lol

I hardly EVER even notice those dumb ads until someone mentions them!! I am so glad that I just tune them out, but I guess they are good practice for real life!! I went past the bakery section of my grocery store the other day and for the first time I REALLY appriciated the smell of cakes, cookies, and pastries!! I mean I really stopped and took in the scent. After that I just shuffled along and got my greek yogurt, cottage cheese, ect.....

I have to admit that after 7 years with TiVo, I've trained my brain not to see ads.  I don't think I've allowed my brain to focus in on a single ad that comes by on OH.   Now when people post food-porn, that's another story.  I can easily salivate when Frisco posts a picture of his Salmon over a bed of fresh spinach.  That's the stuff that gets my juices rockin these days.  The longer I am away from sugar/fat/flour products, any combination of the three would make me happy, the easier it is to turn the other cheek and not really notice the stuff. 

I love me some LW's too!!  :)
