Wow moment!
I haven't seen my brother or his family since before my surgery. My nephew met us in town to take us to their new house. As I stepped out of the car to hug him his jaw dropped. He came up picked me up and hugged me really tight. He said Aunt Danielle where is the rest of you?? You look amazing. I know I was beaming from the inside out. He is such a great kid. He is 20 now. I never thought I would see the day my little man would ever be able to pick me up. When we got to the house. My brother didn't really say too much but I could tell he was proud. My brother made homemade bread, baked pasta, salad and the works for us. I couldn't just not eat what they had so I had a little of everything. He even made his own sauce. I felt like a little princess. His house was beautiful. My sister in law has always been a naturally skinny person. She kind of looked down her nose at me. She asked me how much I had lost and how I plan to keep it off, etc. I thought to myself...somethings never change.
Over all though it was a great visit. My brother is the real reason I went and he was really proud. He may not have said it but it was in his eyes. I was very proud of him too. His house was beautiful and he has raised some great kids.

That is a wow moment! Good for you. Family is a funny thing. My brother, a big guy is one of the reasons why I had WLS. I did not want to be "following in his footsteps or that of my mom". My brother tells me I look good every time I see him. his wife, not a word. In my case his wife's sister had WLS a year before me and since I knew my SIL was against it I never told them about my WLS. I felt terrible for not telling so one day my SIL asked how I was loosing weight and I simply blurted it out. It felt great, and I was laughing as I saw her jaw drop. Well her sister has packed on some pounds since her WLS and to be honest I use her in my mind to keep working at it. Didn't mean to hijack your post with my own story but it reminded me of my own story.
Congrats on your WOW moment!

Danielle - that's a great wow! Its always nice to see family for the first time and get the reaction.
I agree that some people that haven't had to battle their weight really don't understand our struggles... you did good just being yourself about it!

My best friend is one of those naturally skinny folks. Thank goodness she has been with me through it all and has been supportive.
So glad you had a good visit, even if your SIL was rude.
