So good to be home!

I got home yesterday afternoon but the ride home (3 hours) was not fun.  My mom drove me home and she averages 80 miles an hour and most drivers in So. Cal are maniacs so you can just imagine.  I also have this weird throat thing where it feels lie something is stuck so I am constantly swallowing air, burping has never felt so good but it is hard to get out.

Right now I am just concentrating on sipping my water (is it supposed to hurt a little when it hits your tummy?), resting and walking.  I rested a little more than I probably should have but the drive really wiped me out. I also need to get started on my Vitalady vitamins but I am not sure where to start. I doubt I can get the full schedule in but I was wondering if there are ones I should start off with as opposed to others, any thoughts?  I have the VitaLady DS plan.

A big bonus is that my husband has been absolutely incredible!  He felt so bad that he had to leave me at the hospital so he could get the kids home.  He has been doing everything for me as well as taking care of the kids. He has also been helping me with my drains and changing my dressings.  I couldn't ask for better

Another huge THANK YOU to all of you the sent me words of encouragement of good thoughts. I really appreciate it and it was so nice getting the notifications on my phone while in the hospital. Another big thank you to Gina for being my unofficial angel and providing me with support. You guys rock!

Glad to hear you're home!  Concentrate on your water at this point - your vitamins will come when you can get them in and I'm sure Gina will chime in with the order of getting them in.

Yes, water hitting your tummy may hurt - you may want to drink some room temp or warmer water if its cold water that's hurting you - or try putting some lemon or lime in it to help with the acidity.

It sounds like you've got an awesome support system!

Keep us posted how you're doing.

Welcome home.  I had a little shorter ride but it was note worthy also.

I did warm stuff a lot easier than cold in the beginning.  In fact, I still drink more warm to luke warm than icy.

We didn't start vits for 10 days so don't worry about those yet.  Sip your water and protein if you plan calls for that.  Rest and walk when you can.

Everyday seems to get easier.

So glad you are home and it sounds like you are doing well! We also didn't start our vitamins until two weeks after I think..at first it was just all about getting water and protein in..

Hey there! Welcome home!

Order of priority:

1. Sip--water as folks have suggested at room or warmer temp. Add a little fresh lemon or lime juice with a touch of Splenda like Jody said.

2. Protein shakes--mix them with lactaid milk, soy or almond milk (low carb varieties), or if you can find it, Hood low carb milk. Try some vanilla with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Some folks do fine with chocolate...depends how far off your taste buds are. You don't have to mix them full strength and you can water down the milk if you want to and maybe add a touch of decaf coffee or chai tea.

3. Vitamins--split the larger ones in 1/2 if you have tablets. Start with your multi, vitamins A & D and calcium. You can open your calcium and D capsules and dump them in your water or a protein shake. You might want to add your magnesium next once those are going well.

Good to see that you're home and being taken care of!

Thanks Gina!

I think I am now having acid pain or gas issues.  It doesn't happen all the time but I do get this radiating burning type pain that starts in the middle of my tummy and works its way out (both up and down).  I am wondering if the Pepcid prescription they sent me home with isn't enough.

I got half of a protein shake in yesterday but didn't even think not to make it with milk.  I am using an egg protein powder that isn't bad and I will switch to blending it with water to see how it goes.  I also have put the Hood low carb milk on the shopping list.

I tried my multi-vitmain last night, broken in two.  The first half went down ok but the second lodged in my throat and I choked for a second.  It scared me so bad I didn't attempt to try it again. I will make another attempt tonight.  I am also going to use your suggestion for the calcium and D.

Yeah, the acid can be pretty rough right now. I can still get it if I don't get enough snacks or shakes every few hours. I do take a 150 Zantac and I've been told you can add that kind of thing in addition to whatever you're already taking. Keep taking the Pepcid and add a Zantac or something whenever the acid starts to burn or if you know about when it might kick up.

I remember I'd get the acid burn in the middle of the night and I stumble into the bathroom and nearly chug Maalox. Hang tough and do what you have to do.

Keep me posted on how you're doing and if you have any questions.

Glad you are home.

I am totally a so-cal driver. I go 80 mph just so I can be the first to sit in traffic. LOL My ride home from the hospital was 4 1/2 hours long. I swear we hit every pot hole in the road and every construction area where they paved over the rubble strip. Yikes.  I slept for hours when I got home.

I just took my multi for the first weeks cause it was chewable and added things as a could.  I had trouble swallowing pills for a few weeks.

I had to find out how I could take water and mine had to be at room temperature at first.  Then it had to have lemon. Just make sure you are staying hydrated.

Hope your first few weeks are not too bad.

Ha ha!  I swear that is the m.o. for all of us in so cal, hurry up and wait.  I drive like a maniac too but I was hoping my mom would take it a little slower and not change lanes every second.

welcome to the loser's bench!  congrats. You "sound" wonderful!
I got the same throat thing the first couple days. It went away. Same thing as you with the water. I did warm water with fresh lemon juice, just a little.

Aaah.  Isn't it great to have a thoughful incredible husband?

Congrats again.
