Dexa Scan in the Morning....
Good Luck with the ultrasound. I had my GB removed 3 months before my Sleeve surgery. It was at the consult for the GB that my doctor recommended I get weight loss surgery. Thank goodness my GB was wonky or we would never have had that consult.

I had a baseline DEXA scan last year pre-op. Normally, they wouldn't have done it, but since I was going to have bariatric surgery, my PCP ordered it. I will have a repeat done at one year. The first test was good, so I hope it will continue. I think it is great to get a baseline report, so that you can follow the results during the coming years and catch any bone loss in the early stages.
I have been going for DEXA SCANS since I am 38 years old due to terrible family history and many risk factors of my own. Both my parents have/had it - mom had it really bad before she died and dad has a mild case now. My mom was in her 50's when she got it and dad was in his 70's. So far mine have been okay - last one was done Sept 09. I need to have another one now but insurance won't pay for it until Sept. Since my surgeries and being in bed for 5 months, I can't stand up straight. My neck is all the way forward. I am really worried that I might have either osteoporosis or osteopenia. My Endocrinologist says many people after being in bed for long periods of time, get osteoporosis early. In the meantime, she sent me for x-rays of my lumbar and cervical spine which the report said I needed to go back for an x=ray of my thorasaic spine which I had yestarday - they thought the problem was in my upper thorasaic spine, so hopefully I will know more next week but not until the holidays are over, since my doctor is out for the holidays. I do have terrible pain in my upper spine around my bra line.
Every women should have a Dexa scan when she goes through menopause, and anyone that has weight loss surgery should have one at 1 year out if they haven't had one before.
It will determine if you have had any bone loss which being post menopausal puts you at high risk and also after weight loss surgery, puts you at high risk especially if you aren't getting enough calcium or vitamin D.

Randi, I feel like you are always a great Public Service Announcement for all of us. Nobody ever told me to get a Scan either at menopause (10 years ago) or post op. I've never in my life taken a calcium supplement until WLS and I was vegan for at least 10 of the last 20 years so got no calcium in dairy either. I hope that this scan comes back with great results.
I'm so so so sorry that you're still suffering. All of those months in bed have taken a toll on your overstressed body. How are you taking care of yourself mentally/emotionally to get through this? Do you have a support system? I wish you would post more often to let us know how you're doing, like daily would be great. You know that so many of us care how you are but as with everything, daily life gets in the way. I'm not at OH near as much as I was during my first year because now I'm in exercise classes all the time after working a 9 hour day in the office. If it feels like I never think of you, that's not true. I wonder how so many people are doing but I'm not a good one for sending out private messages. My friends at home wish I would call more but I just don't keep that sort of stuff together. So please please don't stay away and keep letting us know how you're doing so that we can swing those critters and keep you in our best thoughts.
