Hi Rebecca! Hi Everyone!!
I stumbled across the LW board due to someone else mentioning it on another board
A week tomorrow I will be 9 months out from my RNY surgery!
My highest weight was probably around 250, the scale and I weren't on speaking terms at that time, so I can't be certain. When I started seeing my bariatric surgeon I weighed in at 229, gained and lost a couple pounds over the 6 month waiting period and ended it at 229 (BMI 37.5) So that's my starting weight. I weighed 211 the day of surgery though (fun fun preop diet), I've got around 7 pounds to my theoretical goal weight, but I'm kinda taking things as they come and focusing more on toning up instead.
My diabetes is in remission (A1C is 5.9 from 10.8 so I think I'm doing great) and I am planning to wear a bikini this summer for the first time in 15 years.
I'm 29 (30 in August) I've been married for a year and a half. My husband and I have an adorable 2 year old son, and they are the main reasons why I did this.
I attend support group once a week and we have since started an email support group. I'll also be starting up a group on here as well as on FB for us (as soon as we hash out the name).
I'm very happy with my decision, I have great support, and life is pretty great. I didn't sign on to OH until after my surgery when a friend (who had her RNY 4 months after me) told me about it.
I go to Curve's every week day (barring catastrophe), play with my son outside when weather permits, love the Wii dancing games, and eat low carb. Hubby has no issue altering his diet patterns to match mine (easier than cooking more food) and we're having fun with new experiments in the kitchen :)
I'm really glad I found you guys, this is one of the nicer boards here :)

I have no regrets and would do my surgery over again in a heartbeat. Cindy
Hi Rebecca & everyone!
I am Mara, I am 38, married for almost 12 yrs, have a beautiful 4 yr old DD (very strong-willed) that keeps me on my toes! She is the reason I had this surgery, I could not be a Mom that was on the sidelines and could not enjoy life with my little girl. I have had so many first's with her this past year, and it has been so fun!
I had RNY Oct 2009, I have lost 118 lbs. I am maintaining now anywhere between 149-153lbs. I am trying to post my foods on the daily thread to stay accountable (at least on weekdays). I have an addiction to sugar that I still have a daily battle with. I try to eat protein every 2-3 hours and I take karate and zumba for exercise.
I love this board and don't get to post often but try to check in almost everyday for a few minutes. Great group here!!!

Mara, DH and I used to joke that we HAD to stay together because of DD: neither one of us could have handled her alone, and we're both considered strong-willed people!
I kept reminding us that strong-willed children make GREAT adults - if we let them live that long! (and I was right! We let her live, and she is!)

Thanks Rebecca, I needed to hear this! She has been quite a handful lately, and I need to get a handle on this... I will NOT have one of those kids that run the house (which believe me she continues to try!). Some days I think tools I've learned are working and other days, they do not! Everyone says later on this is a great trait for her to have, but right now I just need to learn how to manage it! I see glimmers of hope now and then, but most days it is a struggle with her.
I have no clue how people have more than one!!! LOL Thanks again!

Hi!
I'm Alysia. I'm 25 and I have my VSG surgery coming up on Monday. I was born/raised in Louisiana, and moved to South Carolina after I graduated from college. I live with my boyfriend of 2 years, who is amazing and very supportive. We'll hopefully be getting married eventually, but have no plans for children.
I work in Human Resources which I've done for about three years, and I love it. I'm actually rather excited right now because I just found out that I'll be taking on a lot of new duties and responsibilities next week (they sure scheduled that well, huh? I'm supposed to start on the day I have surgery!), and that might mean a promotion/will definitely mean a raise. I have a meeting at 4:30 to go over it!
As a side note, I have a newfound addiction to nail polish!

Hi Everyone!
I'm Amy and I live in Eastern WA. Tomorrow I will be 4 weeks out from RNY. So far no regrets! My surgery and post-op went off without a hitch. My starting weight was my high weight at 218. I lost 10 pounds pre-op so I was 208 at surgery. My weight loss has been slower than I expected, today I was 195.4...but that is still almost 13 pounds in a month. I figure that at this steady rate I can be to around goal in 7 months. It took me a while to be ok with that.....until I thought about this~without my RNY I would probably still be at 220 or higher in 7 months!
I've been married for going on 15 years to a great man. I have two step kids 23 and 21 and we have our DD that is 7. She is my joy! I work full time (from home) as a SR Claims Specialist handling litigated and fatality claims for an auto insurance company. It has it's very stressful days but I am thankful to be working (been here 13 years). I only took 2.5 weeks off from work....wi**** would have been more!!
I'm looking forward to upping my exercise! Joining the YMCA next week so DD can swim while I work out and we bought the Just Dance Wii game last night for a little fun exercise.
Thanks so much for all of your help and support on this site~it has made all the difference!!

Tracey here, 8 weeks out from a VSG. I'd been preparing for a RNY, when an endoscopy showed a gastrointestimal stromal tumor. A gastrectomy removed the tumor and reduced the odds of recurrence. Just so happened that the surgery that saved my life was also a WLS. That coincidence, to me, was God agreeing that I needed WLS.
I was a fat kid, a chunky young adult, and a full-fledged member of the Female, Fat, and 40 club. I can become addicted to anything I do twice that makes me feel good. Food was my first addiction--right now, I'd addicted to Wii Sports tennis. The times they are a-changin'
I obsessively.....garden (flowers and veggies), travel (business AND pleasure), spin and knit, and now, play Wii fitness games. I'm an aspiring writer with a journalism & advertising background. I support all my habits by helping a big organization with specialized computer problems, yet at home, I get frazzled fine-tuning my computer firewall or teaching DH to use email.
My friends consider me intelligent, friendly, determined, and funny. My enemies see me as over-analytical, rude, dogged, and irreverent. I have many friends: I trust their opinions.
I'm married to a younger fella who makes my heart sing. It wasn't love at first sight. He was NOT marriage material--I told him for a couple years that our dating was "just for fun." This shows God has a sense of humor, that She knew the benefit of dating (and marrying) younger men, and that God truly gives the best gifts to those that let Her choose. I rarely mention my family on the Internet, except in passing. Trust me, you shouldn't either.
My surgery was textbook boring, my recovery to date also (thankfully) boring and my results typical. More than 20 of my acquaintances have had WLS, so I have no illusions that WLS will make me happy, successful, or a best-selling fiction author. My sleeve is not a personality correcter, talent shaper, or rewired brain that makes perfect food choices, but a restrictive tool with some side benefits. Since I am 2 hours from my surgical center support group, the LW board IS my support group. In fact, I consider the LW board my SECOND tool, which works on the brain to keep me Honest, Open-minded, and Willing. To me that's the HOW of "How the LW board works."

Thanks for starting this, Rebecca.
I'm Liz aka southernlady and married to another lightweight on the board, Charles (cbramsey5898). We've been married almost 15 years coming up in Sept. We have 2 wonderful DD's and son's in law thanks to him, the dd's are 25 and almost 27. (Mara, my 25 year old was very strong willed as a child/teen, so much so she almost didn't survive me. But she is a fantastic adult for it. My husband referred to it as "rock meet hard place"). I'm 56 and he's 50. :)
We live in Eastern Tennessee after traveling all over during our marriage because of his job. We are both disabled, he's medically retired. We live with 5 furry felines who own the place. Too bad they can't paint.
I also run my own business, a scrap booking store, along with a design house for forum themes. And Charles has started part time work inhouse as well so we are both staying very busy. And I was asked to become a member of the National Organization of Professional Women a couple of weeks ago.
And to top it all off, I'm renovating my house on the cheap...kitchen, main bath, repainted the downstairs bath today. Need to tackle the upstairs bath and a bedroom. All the baths had wallpaper and I've stripped it off and painted.
I haven't needed to exercise, too busy renovating, LOL
Both my husband and I started our weight loss journey in earnest last June. We eventually both went for the DS as it offered both of us the best solution. His was in Dec 2010 mine was the 24th of Jan, 2011. I'm 11 1/2 weeks out. I've lost 44.4 lbs since I signed into the surgeon's office in June and 40.4 lbs since the day of my surgery. I've also lost over 32 inches last time I measured on March 24th. I was an insulin dependent diabetic on an insulin pump. I took the pump off on Feb 1st, my last dose of insulin was the 11th of Feb. I am still taking glucophage but pre-op my dose was 2000 mgs a day, now it's 500 mgs a day. And I am currently down to a size 10 pants and a size Large top (wore a 16W pants and a 22 top pre-op. :)
