It's a safety helmet with a sun brim.  Probably does look pretty weird but does it's job.

Let me know when you are coming back and I will bring the big pony.  She will give us a ride around the property to remember.

OK, and I'll spring for a nice dinner on property, and the pony ride WILL STILL be the best part of the deal!

Price,

He's a good looking pony! And you look fantastic.

Question about driving.... I have been considering purchasing a broke Fjord to drive. But I have NO experience in driving at all - and this would likely be something I would do to exercise the dogs prior to hunting season and off season as well. Just wondered how I would get started and what type of rig I would need for off-road driving. And if you have any suggestions on a starter pony (or horse).

You can send me a private message or whatever.

Fjords and Haflingers are notoriously stubborn.  Even when well trained to drive, they can take advantage of you if you don't know what you are doing.  I would recommend staying away from those breeds as a first pony.  A morgan or a crossbred would be a better option.  There are lots of STBs from the track that are well broke solid citizens depending on where you are.  My first driving partner was an OTT STB.
I would look for a biothane harness instead of leather for ease of care.  And a wooden amish made cart.  Do not get one of those metal pipe carts with bike wheels and expect it to hold up to cross country.
Are there drivers in your area that can help you look for pony and equipment?  Helps to take a knowledgeable eye with you.

I am in Amish country here in Missouri - or close to it. My sister is a horse trainer, but lives in New Mexico, so not close. I don't know anyone who drives horses around here at all. Any breed that would be best to be an "only horse?" I know horses are herd animals and I would hate to have an unhappy horse.

I'd like to have a solid, well-broke citizen for sure!

There are great Amish trainers and not so great ones.  But their horses are pretty bomb proof and if you ask for a Ladies Horse, most understand that to be one that is very broke.  They could certainly help you with a cart and harness.
I think any can live alone but not many would chose to.
