Try to find something you love! I like the walking because it gives me more time to spend with my pooches - the dogs LOVE the new me.

Can you try swimming? I love to swim and as soon as it warms up, I'm out with the dogs in the lake at least 3 times a week.

Keep trying until you find something you enjoy!

p.s. if you don't have a dog and you like to volunteer, shelters always like to have volunteer dog walkers.

I agree find something that you at least like..if you hate walking you are not likely to continue with this exercise..I love to exercise but I need to get some extra energy out of my system and it feels so good when its gone..even with that said its usually hard for me to start to exercise just not that motivated I guess..so find something that you at least like for now and go from there..

Boy can I relate.
I am one of those people who say things like "I"M GOING TO HAVE FUN IF IT KILLS ME!!"  How many times do you see folks exercising and laughing simultaneously?  Only kids do that, right?  So I figured I'd find things to do that were kid-like.   Enter the Wii.

Until I found the Wii, I thought working in the garden would be my best form of exercise.  But with the Wii, I've got plenty of choices, and I can always find something to do for 30 minutes.  Normally now I exercise for 1.5 to 2 hours at a time, and I'm actually having FUN.  Often I LAUGH.  I mean, how could you chase moles on a Segway down a virtual beach and NOT laugh?

In one night, in the privacy of my own den, I can snowboard, slalom ski, skateboard, rhythm box, hula hoop, do rhythm step aerobics, be the baton leader of the band, do rhythm kung foo, or run down an imaginary street in an imaginary Wii town.

And it doesn't KILL ME.  And the scale moves (down).

Even though I love Zumba when I go to class, I still have to draggggg my butt there. But the wii?  Can you spell "addiction?"

I agree with all the other posters, if you don't enjoy walking try something else. Try swimming its always fun, aquafit is hilarious to do, take a friend, you will laugh and have a good time. I do feel your pain though. I always HATED and I mean HATED exercise of any form, aside for a nice walk as long as it wasn't to cold or hot or raining you get my drift. I would find any excuse not to go. After surgery and for me that has been nearly a year, I have decide to join the Y to get my ass moving. I tried the class which I resisted trying for so long, and figured I would loathe, yes the Spin class. Well let me tell you after the first hour class I could hardly walk down the stairs to the changing rooms, my ass and crotch area was so sore I thought I would die. I waited about a week and tried the noon hour 1/2hr class (not sure why I didn't do this one first) I didn't want to go but didn't want it to beat me. Well I did awsome the second time around. Now I am completly hooked, nothing hurts like it did the first time (I blame the ****ty bike I had) I am not a morning person at all, and I work straight nights, but I set my alarm and jump up so excited because its Mon, wed, or friday so that I can go to spin class. I don't like the 1/2hr its too short !!!! Who knew, you just have to find something you like, its out there just keep trying something new!! Good luck

A lot   of that initial  hurt is also  YEARS  of toxins exiting  Ur body stage left  ....  toxins that were  formerly stored  away somewhat  safely in Ur fat cells  which suddenly  get released after WLS  or  when we commence exercise  after many years  as a couch potato .... toxins which pose a very real and serious danger to U  other than the headaches and mood swings they  cause .

They  also  cause  free radical damage aging  U inside and out ,  start cancers ... so they NEED  to be sweated out as fast as U can manage it .

I really  recommend  a sauna  or  a hot tub if U cant  jog or walk  or bike  or  Wii regularly  ....but sweat  SOMEHOW  .

Ull see it'll get a LOT better  real quick  !  and the results are amazing  ...Ur skin tightens up so fast  ...  U feel so much better  and U lose a lot faster

Great reminder about the sauna.  My building just replaced the old sauna with a beautiful new one.  I spend most of my time exercising outdoors but want to get into the gym more for upper body workouts.  We have a great pool that's heated very nicely so I just need to get myself in to swim and then followup with a great sauna.

You always have great suggestions Ava.

Now about those pilates, 50 years of a fat tummy takes a lot of work and probably a plastics person to undo the damage, but at least I can shape a strong core under it all.   My pilates mat teacher says that we have to have a strong back to go with the strong abs or it doesn't do us any good.  I love my mat class, even though I'm often close to tears.  I'm in week 20 and wouldn't consider giving it up.  I take it at my local Kaiser facility.  I also got a great Social Deal for 5 classes on the reformer machine.  Ava, it's not torture at all but feels incredible.  Did you get a jump board with yours?  I love the jump board and how it makes me feel.  The upper body stuff kills but that's only because I have flab arms.  I wish that the classes weren't $28 for 50 minutes because I'm going to want more more more.  I figure that's cheaper than a personal trainer.

Just the word exercise makes me cringe!!!!!!    I don't plan my exercise I just try to keep as active as I can.  I love to jump rope with my granddaughter,  take the steps instead of the elevator,  and when I go shopping I don't take the closest parking spot and I love to run from the car into the stores and back.  My DD laughs and probably others think I'm crazy but it makes me feel so free.   My grandbabies keep me moving and I'm not a coach potato anymore.  I'm also hoping we can do a few bike trails this summer with the older granddaughters.  I guess you might say I'm reliving memories of my youth (could that mean I'm going through second childhood). Hopscotch....YES   I've got to add that to the list!!!!

Don't think of moving as exercise (dirty word) just find something that makes you.......

I guess I'm the odd duck, I actually like to exercise!  I LOVE Hiking up and down hills in the conservation area's with my dogs.  I have a workout DVD that that uses the exercise ball that I LOVE and can't wait to get home from work to do it.  I like using my under desk pedals at work, my step resistance band thing not so much but I force myself to do 30 minutes a day.

The feeling when you've finished exercising is the absolute best though!  I think that's what keeps me motivated.

I'm going on vacation for 3 weeks in May and freaking about not being able to do my regular exercise, thankfully I'm going to the mountains so I'll be able to hike for a couple of hours a day.  :0)

I agree, make it something that you enjoy and find fun!  Swimming is great, and rollerblading is really fun and low impact (read: non-painful) and burns a TON of calories.
