I don't Know HOW ANYONE Can be "Enthusiastic" about Exercisng...I HATE...
Yea, Ok, so before surgery I had all kinds of pain via my weight....now it is coming off, Albeit WAY TO SLOW for my liking but ok it's still coming down....but look I have to admit, I freakin HATE i mean HATE exercising....I feel like I am exchanging one pain for another. No more true pain from weight issues much except my on going back pain....but good god, I HURT when I exercise (what everyone calls a 'good' hurt whatever that is)
I don't know how in the he(double hockey sticks) people say "I love working out" "I can't wait to hit the gym" blah blah blah.......
Ok even though I am venting I am still very religious about getting my very brisk walk in at a minimum 4xms a week but MOSTLY 5-6.......for 30 minutes....but I hate EVERY moment of it, EVERY....
ok ranting done

Walking is good and in most cases enough! There is no hard and fast rule about exercising.
I have made exercise (running, etc) a hobby because it helps me mentally and physically. I can't say that I love it though. It is hard every time. What I love is the feeling after - I feel stronger and like I accomplished something difficult.
Even having lost 100+ pounds, it is still hard and it still hurts.
You really don't need to love it.....or do it for that matter. You might miss out on a few health benefits if you don't, but you have already improved your health by tons just by having surgery!

If you hate walking, do something else. It only burns 50 calories per mile anyway. Try bike riding or running or doing a class at the gym.
I am not big on walking either but I workout 6-10 hours a week because there are lots of exercises that I love to do. Just not walking. LOL

I started running when I was losing weight 30 yrs ago with WW. I used to say I loved running. Did I really or did I love being out at 6am, feeling good afterwards, the stress relief, etc.
I have been going to Curves for several years now. Same kind of thing. It's easy, on my way to work, over and done with for the day. I enjoy the benefits if not the actual physical experience.
My ponies are a different matter all together. I love riding and driving. I love spending time with them, being in the barn, the smells, etc.
It's really nice when you can love it, but if you can't, find something you at least don't hate.

You are a great writer. I had to read your excerpt out loud to my daughter.
I hated exercising too. I was afraid to paint our condo because the last time I painted I felt sore and exhausted. It gets better, it honestly does.
Perhaps you are doing too much walking and not giving your body a rest. If you still have a lot to lose there is certainly stress that goes on with the feet, back and muscles. But you should not have that much pain, perhaps you are working too hard.
I would suggest trying another exercise that makes you happy. Swimming does not put so much stress on the body and you are getting just as good exercise.

I've been a walker for many years and I have to say that it gets easier with every pound that comes off. I want to go back to China to hike the Great Wall again because of how much easier it would be now!
That said, I'm branching out. This I started yoga and pilates. I LOVE pilates. I can't believe it but I do. I love how my body stretches and moves. I'm starting to jog some now as well but my real challenge is to get myself into my gym to do weights to combat this bat wings.
Everyone is right, find something that feels more like playing than hateful exercise. Also, my biggest trick is that I have WLS buddies that walk with me and do pilates with me. Even when I don't want to get out and do it, they are there waiting for me.
My favorite saying used to be: When the urge to exercise strikes, I sit on the couch until it passes.
Not anymore. :)

One of these days I'm actually going to unpack the Pilates machine I paid 350 dollars for last October lol .... which I have myself convinced is some kind of torture instrument to beat myself up with in my military mind .
Hopefully it will find a place of honor in the gorgeous home gym of the new house ... ( we don't have a closing date YET but yesterday we got the news that we will soon have a commitment letter and we are locked into a good interest rate )
I'm praying Im praying
