Good Morning. Taxes...I keep too much paper

Ok, the day is fast approaching and I haven't even sorted through the paper work I've accumulated in 2010. {sigh}  When will I learn that I can throw away the bill receipts and only keep year end investment, mortgage, other taxes paid, refunds, contributions, last year's tax documents, W2's and tuition info. Everything else is useless. There goes my Saturday!  We did get an extension to the 18th this year, right?  Holy crap!

What has your attention today?

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Oh Gina, I haven't heard anything about an extention.  Maybe but usually that is only if the 15 is over a weekend or holiday.

Thankfully, mine taxes are done and the bill for having them done is paid.  It did convince me to put the personal stuff on Quick Books like the business stuff is so I don't have to sort through everything in January and can get a handle on what the bottom line looks like in Dec.

Today I'm dealing with client issues and getting my crew ready for Special Olympics on Thursday.  Let's hope for a great day for the Spring Games.

I am finishing up taxes too...we should break even (I hate giving the government an interest free loan). Of course I procrastinated AGAIN..ugh..

But we do have until the 18th so that is a good thing :)

We turned in ours back during the first week of Feb. Didn't have to pay anything but also didn't get anything back...we broke even with them for a change.

This year, I suspect will be different because the business will be in the black not the red.

And I had a SCALE victory this morning...I broke into the 150's...I now weigh 159.4.

The 18th it is. DH is an accountant so I get him back then!! LOL  Of course he will do ours last which is fine because we probably owe some this year.  I took a small lump sum from my pension plan when I retired (so we'd have money to live on) and I doubt they took out enough taxes up front.

This year I started taking iphone pictures of checks or scanning receipts I wanted to keep and then throwing away the originals.  That way everything is on the computer instead of all over the house.  It's a work in progress!
Good luck on your taxes everyone and stay away from Cinnabon on Monday.  They are giving away free mini cinnabons in honor of tax day. gee-thanks a lot!

Good Morning Gina!

Yup, the 18th this year.  Heard it on NPR yesterday.  I love the idea of taking pictures of receipts on the iphone!  I'm going to give that a try.  I hate all this paper everywhere!!!  It's time for me to shred old taxes back 7 years etc.

I efiled my taxes three weeks ago.  It took one week before both state and feds were deposited to my account.

Now that I have those refunds, and I didn't owe money, I'm planning summer vacation.  I'm thinking about train or car travel through Eastern Europe.  Zach and I have been to so many countries but haven't done Eastern Europe except for Russia two years ago.  My mom was born in Poland and I'd like to go and see her country.  While my dad was born in Argentina, he met mom in Poland.  I'm thinking Poland, Budapest, Vienna and Prague.  Anyone been?  Any good tips?

Have a fun day everyone!

Hi, Gina,

It is the 18th, just to keep things confusing: http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=233910,00.html

We just hit the send button on my mom's and my returns yesterday - what a relief to be done! We both overpaid but my mom's was way too much based on her former accountant's bad advice. I decided to apply her excess to next year so I don't have to do estimated taxes for her - woo hoo. I am now using Quicken with the help of a friend. Much better.

I has so many papers to sort at home but first I have to tackle my closets again. Between the season and size changes, I don't know what I have in my closets. I am taking tomorrow off to begin the process. I am losing vacation days since I am over the max. Might as well use them to get organized!

I'm so glad we are through with that for another year.  We did ours the end of February.  It was not as good as last year.  This was the first full year of DH's retirement pensions.  At least we did not owe any money.

A couple of years ago DH and I went through everything and threw away a lot of papers that we no longer needed.  I had every check I had written since we were married and all the tax returns and all the bills and paperwork.  I got rid of everything except the last 7 years.  It was so hard for me to throw it away.  Now I try to throw the prior months bill away when I pay the new months bill so I don't have to go through this at the end of the year - except things I need for taxes like medical bills/donations.

Good luck Gina.

Hmmm - taxes done and refund back in January... even though I KNEW I may have to pay, which thankfully I didn't...

Bite the bullet and get'r done!  You'll feel so much better!

My attention has been on my employment situation - what I should/shouldn't do... so many opinions and only so much time.  I feel I've got the Devil on one shoulder and the Angel on the other...
