At what point do you get rid of larger clothing

I started getting rid of my summer clothes right after surgery (1/24/2011) and I hadn't even begun to lose weight yet. My winter ones took a bit longer, I had to wait til I went down a size or two, LOL.

I didn't even buy new clothes until I was probably in a size 12. I don't really know what size I was because I mainly work sweat type pants. I still have some of them. I am wearing a pair now. They are comfortable but falling off. I got rid of a pair of 2x the other day because they wouldn't stay up. I was telling someone that I don't think I have spent more then $30 on new clothes. I still wear a lot of the tops I had that were 1x or xL because my boobs haven't gone down much at all. I went from a 44dd to a 34dd. I also wear some of my daughters size L. I would go to the thrift store and buy a pair of jeans that fit and then a pair that was a size too small. After I got out of the current size I had a pair to wear. I wound up taking 3 large trash bags of clothes that I never wore and knew I never would wear. Now if I put on a pair of jeans and they are too big they go right into the thrift store bag.

i started getting rid of mine pretty quickly.  only thing i kept is the largest pair of jeans and the dress i wore to my son's wedding.  it was hard to do at first but after the first few trash bags it got much easier!  don't ever want to go back there.....but that big pair of jeans.....reminds me of where i've been!

as far as the melons.....i never had melons to begin with!  now......yep....i'm a card carrying member of the itty bitty ***** committee!!

Well  I  still  have tens of thousand s of dollars  ( probably  more like hundreds of thousands really )  of well made Brooks brothers wool samples in the basement   being eaten by moths as we speak ....

I found  some of my coats  were  usable OVER  like layers and layer s of things in the winter for example  when i WANTED that sexless  bag lady look  ...  but then again i WORK in fashion   and we wear things that are  5  sizes off routinely .    The  huge armholes DONT look good .

the absolute biggest  stuff ive kept are size 8 ( your  standard  "plus " and missy /women's( real people 's)  sample size) and  they  look  well frankly  like  I bought them in a thrift shop  lol !    so  I may be forced to rethink that ... even if  its a full length  100 % cashmere  fox trimmed   opera coat  ...  stuff like  that i kind of figure  size doesnt really  matter anyway  Ure lucky if U wear it once every three years and then Ure darn glad U have a  great quality one in Ure wardrobe that  looks appropriate  over whatever nice  formal dress U are wearing ...

what  looks OKAY  if totally sexless are sixes in coats  ( im a two or a one ) . Zeros with spandex  look  a little sexy .. which  isnt work appropriate  with what  im doing now ... but im definitely keeping them  for when i start  going on auditions again.

I really DO  need to start selling stuff on e-bay !

Ava....
are you SERIOUS about a 100% cashmere fox trimmed opera coat?
I mean... do you REALLY go to the opera?
(laugh)

You know you can let us in on your eBay sales, right?  Cause I want some of your clothes.
Please remember me, your sister in gardening, if you decide to sell cheap!!  (LOL)

I gave away things immediately but I kept a few pairs of jeans that were my favorites.  They were size 20 or 22/24 so I gave them away two weeks ago.  I'm never going back there!  I did keep one pair of jeans that were tight on surgery morning.

I'm going to keep a couple pairs of sweat pants and probably a pair or two of size 12 jeans and other slacks for work so that I have bigger pants for after having a TT if that happens.  If not, I'll give them away too.  I'm not keeping anything over a 10/12 in my closet!

I need to do another cleaning and take my better spring clothes to a consignment shop because none of my friends want/need dressier clothes in bigger sizes.

As soon as possible.

I have a strong policy of not keeping stuff around that I can't wear. I go through my closet every year and get rid of anything I haven't worn all year whether it fits or not. Well, unless it's something like a skating dress or a ****tail dress and I only wear that stuff every couple of years. But all the regular clothing .... OUT!

If you don't get rid of stuff you don't wear, you don't have room for new stuff you will wear.

Love your fruit roll up line.

I'm an avid What Not To Wear TV Show watcher.  (Thank God for TiVo)
Two of their rules are "Don't wear clothes too big, cause they make you look big." and "If you can't wear it, don't keep it in the closet."

Before my surgery, I took all my TOO SMALL clothes, sorted them by size, and put them upstairs in the closet.  Since I"m a pack rat, there were alot of clothes, all the way back to size 6.

Last week, I went upstairs and "shopped." I found six "new" pair of pants that fit.
Then, since I knew I had pants to wear, I went into my regular closet and weeded out all the pants that were too big and couldn't be altered easily, like heavy jeans. I did the same thing with shirts and blouses. I had 1 1/2 bags of clothes, which I gave to one of my friends who is close to my original size.

I plan on doing this until I run out of clothes to "shop" upstairs or I don't have enough clothes for work. Then I'll hit the thrifties.

Now I am regretting giving my SIL all my classic Liz Claiborne clothes. SHE THREW THEM AWAY. Aargh.    They wee the clothes that the REAL Liz designed, in fine materials, with great seams and fine tailoring. (sigh)

Well I took the garbage (aka goodwill) bags into the closest and was amazed at how many I filled up.....my closest looks almost empty.

My husband gave me some money though and I went shopping to make it look not so barren - he was NOT happy when I came home with a new purse though...lol...it was beautiful and I just couldn't resist it (most expensive thing I bought today....=) )

I didn't want to buy too much (I started at size 20 and now I'm a comfortable 16, snug 14) because I am determined to lose a good 30-40lbs if it kills me (super duper slow loser right here)!!

Most of the stuff I bought though are things that will loo****for a little while) on me with a 10-15lb weight loss (at my rate...I'll be able to wear them for the next 3-4 months...lol....)

Now to go BRA shopping.....I tried one on today....it wasn't pretty.  Smaller sized bras are made for girls/woman with perky cute boobs......there aint' nothing perky or cute about my girls!!

Rhie
