At what point do you get rid of larger clothing

Title says it all....at what point do you get rid of all of your clothing that is too big (I'm not talking packing it away....I'm talking about getting rid of it).  I am FINALLY to a point (45lbs lost) where my clothes are just getting to be too big.....but I can't bring myself to get rid of them.....I have this fear of NEEDING them again.......does it help that fear to actually get rid of the clothes?

I'm still wearing belts with most of my pants, but my shirts.....they are falling off my shoulders and just look too big.  And bras......this morning I felt like a little girl trying on her moms bra.....it was kind of funny in a sad sort of way.....my melons have officially become fruit roll ups.

Immediately!!!  Not going back, not after all the hard work, and educating myself as I have...NO WAY.  Gave them away to people ASAP!! Plus, has to make room for new things!

As soon as I went to the next smaller size.  It took me a while to clean out the beginning stuff but when I did, I had 4 garbage sacks full.  Off to the thrift store of choice.  Now I keep a bag in the bedroom closet and as soon as I wear something that is too big, I wa**** and put it in the bag.  I have 3 piles of clothes, one that fits, one that is too small, and the bag which when full is headed out the door.
Sounds like I have a lot of clothes, which I don't.  However, I shop the thrift stores frequently and if there is a really good deal but it is still too small, I go on and get it.  I did buy some new stuff a week ago that was on clearance and cheaper than thrift stores but I am pretty close to goal and I should be able to wear it next winter.
The only clothes that have been hard for me to get rid of were my dressy carriage driving clothes.  But no way they will fit now so they were out the door also.

I started going through my clothes at a little over a month out.  I gave away a whole lot and all along the way, I was replacing clothes from the Goodwill store and thrift stores.  Then I saw an advertisement for a consignment store in my area, so now I take a load of clothes by to sell,  pick out new clothes in my new size, and they deduct the cost from what sold!  Sometimes I even get a check back!

I pretty much waited until I was at goal - why, I don't know.  Its not that I thought I'd need them again. I did get rid of them in waves though - the stuff I really didn't care for and the stuff I liked.  The stuff I liked and knew was expensive when I purchased it was the hardest.  I lost from my "bottom half" faster so pants went out quicker than the shirts.

I let a girlfriend come shopping in my closet and she went home with over 5 garbage bags of clothes - that's on top of the 5-6 I got rid of earlier.

Its funny because when I moved a month ago I still found clothes that were XL I kept for some reason or another... some shrunk so they weren't all THAT big.. but I found I still wasn't wearing them.  I too put a garbage bag on the floor of my closet and anything that didn't fit (too big OR too small) went into it.

Can't wait to get rid of the big old clothes! I'm in the recycle mode and gave away 1/2 of DH side of the closet... about 25 golf shirts, scrubs, 15 pair jeans. And I color coded the shirts that were left and fluffed up a bit to fill space! He didn't notice.

I have nice 18s I've been holding on to and never gotten back into so it will be fun to wear them a bit on the way DOWN...

My plan is to give it away quickly (there is no going back UP there) and make room for the new.

Now getting rid of my DD baby clothes is another story - they are overtaking our basement... some day I will get there!

Good luck...

I hear you about your melons.  I grossed out my husband when I said, "Look honey, I can fold this in half"!  All my bigger clothes are boxed up in the basement and going to be part of our yard sale.  I finally broke down and bought some new bras.

I'll let you in on a little secret.  If you get rid of your too big clothes, and buy a few new pairs of jeans, the weight falls off again and your new jeans are too big.

If you hang on to your clothes, you confuse your body
