New bikes -- Second Ride

We had a great first ride on our new mountain bikes on Sunday.  DH found an easy trail entirely paved with gentle slopes.  What a fun 10 miles!

After waiting several days for the pain in my tush to subside and a one day delay due to my work travel, we went out again last night.  DH decided we are going to ride along the power lines behind our neighborhood.  OMG!  These were rocky, hilly, deer paths.  I was great with paved gentle slopes, but not so great with rocky hills.  After a minor fall off the bike and much cursing (at DH for going some place he really had not checked out and at myself for being stupid enough to follow him), we hit pavement again.

We rode to a near-by park.  The hills kicked my butt.  I had to get off and push the bike to the top of a hill a couple of time.  I didn't realize how bad my endurance was.  DH would stop at the top of the hill and wait for me.  He'd be nice and rested then take off.  I'm standing there sucking wind.  I think more cussing ensued.

We stopped and ate dinner on the way home.  That last mile to the house was the hardest.  Being off the bike and getting back on after dinner really highlighted the soreness in my butt.  I'm still sore this morning, but I feel really good about the workout yesterday.  11 tough miles whi*****luded time with DH. Yes, I wore the padded shorts yesterday. They didn't seem to help too much.  I think it will take riding for a while for my body to adjust.

My plan is to take the lead for our next bike outing.  It won't be as easy as Sunday, but it won't be killer like yesterday.  I need to build some strength and endurance first.  Even though it was a tough ride.  I'm still loving the cycling!

Good for you for continuing.  DH and I have basically nothing we do for pleasure together.  I do the horses, he plays golf and bowls.  But even after 39 yrs, it has worked for us.

My little pony cart has basically no springs.  When we go down a bumpy road, it is hell on my butt and jars all the way up my back.  It does have pneumatic tires so I may have to let a little air out to get a better ride.  I can imagine your tush is sore from the bike.

Good for you sticking with it Kay.  I would need to get one of the big grandma seats.  That's what my parents have on their bikes!!
