How to Detox from Sugar
Does anyone have any suggestions or tried and true ways to successfully detox from sugar? Cold turkey sounds great, but realistically, that's probably not going to happen. I thought I had a handle on the sugar and also kind of hoped that I would dump a bit. Well, that didn't happen so here I am, 3mo post op, and messing with sugar again. I must admit that I cant eat it like before, but I do know that it is doing nothing to help my weight loss and I'd like to be at goal by August.
I don't keep anything sweet in the house at all. Well, my DH has stuff but it is items that I have no desire for like honey buns (ick). My sweet treats are my protein drinks and chocolate calcium chews. I have had a bite of desert when I have been out but then they are gone when I am so have a way to keep at them. So maybe limiting access to them where you can would help.

I wish I could be more help. The only way I was able to get off of it this last time was because I was recovering from surgery. Between the anesthesia and the drugs I managed to get through it. I hope you can get a handle on it. My addiction to refined carbs is one of the reasons my first WLS failed.

My first month was tolerable by eating everything "sugar free" I could. Slow but sure I've given away foods in my cupboard that have sugar in them. My husband was helpful by requesting I not bring home any more ice cream or cookies for him. Also, when he emptied the sugar bowl he asked me to NOT fill it up. I don't have any desire to eat sugar... somehow that compulsion was lifted with the surgery, but it's sure been easier without sugar in the house. I bought a canister of Stevia to sweeten my teas with and a box of Truvia packets so I can have a natural sweetener with me in my purse. The "sugar free" items that are sweetened with a sugar substitute other than Stevia are also being given away to people who don't mind eating those things. I don't walk down the candy aisles, I use the contractors register at Home Depot since they don't have candy bars on display, I use the self checkouts at the grocery stores for the same reason. Not because I'm afraid I'll be tempted but more because I choose not to be around to what is truly "poison" for me. It was a decision I made and the new mindset makes it very easy to just skim right over items that contain sugar, like they aren't even there. I think the flavored calcium chews are a good idea, as long as your personality is able to handle it. Some can have an occasional brownie bite, and others it would set off a binge. So, know your body and if you must utilize the sugar-free stuff while you eliminate the bad stuff from your home and surroundings, know that your body will adjust and quit craving it as you switch over to healthy eating. It's a temporary phase and you can do it. Good Luck!
