I filled out and sent in my retirement paperwork.  I read an email from work today about the downsizing and just had had enough.  It was the last straw...

They're making everyone crazy with their changes and pushing people to feel scared and paranoid.  They're not giving pertinent information up front then surprising us when they come down with it.

So - May 31st I'm done with the PO.  Its sad this is the way it has to end.  I've given them the best years of my life, and they were good to me too during that time.

So - anyone know where I can get a job?

Maybe we need to do something together. The contract I'm on ends this summer or fall. I wish I had a retirement plan I could get to now. Dang double standard military systems. I only need 4 more years and I can get retirement benefits.

I didn't know you had to wait for your retirement - how come?  Actually, I've applied for a position with Booz Allen Hamilton.  Kind of a "feeler" to see if I'm anywhere qualified....

Wait until you see me Saturday!  I cut my hair real SHORT and let it grow out to its natural color - which is gray...

My daughter also told me I need a new profile pic - this one is almost 7 months old... maybe we can work on that!

Good for you for listening to your inner voice and sending in those papers, Jody. I am sure that interesting opportunities will open up for you. Here's to your encore career!

I'd love to see the latest photo and your new do.

Thanks Amy!  I just hope my new "do" doesn't make me look too old - LOL... especially if I'm back in the job market!

 Jody,

Welcome to the winner's bench!! I retired in June from 32 years of teaching for pretty much the same reasons you have chosen to retire.  Everyone thought I would be sorry.  Money is scary but other than that, it was the best decision I have ever made (well maybe not as good as WLS).
I wouldn't go back for anything.
Right now I'm doing consulting work part time since at 55 I'm not really ready to be put out to pasture!  I go to the gym during the day (the best classes are then anyway.) i've put out feelers to do some volunteer work as well.
I won't lie-there are definitely days that are kind of boring and not having the same schedule every day is still difficult to get used to.  Other than that-everyone thinks I look so relaxed and younger, etc.
I think it's just jealousy.

As for your hair--have you checked out MORE magazine? The young looking gray haired women are HOT!  It's confidence that makes you attractive and your best years are yet to come.

Yes, I usd to get MORE magazine and saw the articles they had about people that let their hair go gray.  Some days I like it, some days I'm not so sure... LOL...

Money is going to be the scary part for me too.....

Wow! What a life changing decision!  I've been asking myself "why am I still working?" alot lately.  DH claims he should retire first. LOL

I'm happy for you!
