Good Morning. OT: The only thing on my mind right now

Been awake off and on all night thinking about what to do if I lose this job in July or Sep. I guess a good fall back position would be to land a gov't job and maybe get to retirement age in 8 years. I'm also going to contact some other folks I know working as contractors in my field and see what the prospects are with them. Hubby says to ask for a straight, no nonsense answer from my boss when he comes back in town. If he plans to lay me off at the end of this contract, etc. {sigh}

I'd love to work for Vitalady but don't know how to do that since she's on the west coast and I'm on the east coast, and I doubt she's in a position to franchise out right now. {crap}

I think Jody and I would love to hear some ideas. Throw them out here for us to think about.

Thanks,

You are in the hub of association --profit and nfp -- you might consider consulting in that area. Project mgmt or process audits. Lots of opportunities!!! Will ck in later. Gotta get on the road!!

ASAE is the national association that caters to association executives. You could learn a lot about association world and their needs here at there site...

I work for a state level organization and our sole purpose is advocacy support for the mfg industry.  There are so many organizations in this arena (state and national level) that need help in the areas of process improvement, goal setting, organization, IT, etc.  I think you cold find a niche market easily.  OK I know nothing about what you do -- just saying from my interactions you appear to be research oriented, focused, excited to learn, a good listener and a great leader!

I've dreamed of a process audit consulting gig.  Go in, fix it and get out.  I have experienced a lot these past 23 years and people are WASTING TIME!  It's incredibly painful to watch.  Now somebody I know is probably lurking here saying "yeah... you need automated!"  Oh well...maybe so!  I used to do business analysis / software implementations and it was great fun to go in quickly and learn about a business - and get them to a better place.  I was working from home - and it was not a good fit for that time of my life -- hmmmmmmm... now I would give my left arm for that position!!

Anywho, there is also this company Six Disciplines that hires "coaches" for their product -- initiative building software - helps companies set goals, meet milestones, etc.  Covey-ish --- type deal.  Not sure if you are into that but it would be good learning, too.  Google them.

Let me know if you want to talk more or have any specific questions....

I hope you don't lose your job!!!   I'm probably with your DH on asking him.  You said he was a friend so he might  give you an honest answer but if he's afraid you will leave early, maybe not.  He might not even know what's going to happen.

My Niece works as an auditor for the Dept. of Defense.  I would think in your area there should be lots of opportunities with someone with your background.

Since I have been out of the work force for 15 years, I really have no answer for you. I know there is one. The problem is, finding it.

I had an opportunity fall in my lap and I wasn't even looking for it. I use to own a digital scrapping store. Gave it up in October so we could focus on our surgerie. Didn't hurt that the store wasn't doing well.

Okay, a few days ago, a friend decides she want to give up being a store owner and go back to being just a designer and contacts me. She gives me the store, lock stock and barrel. And unlike my previous store, this one is a money maker. :) Not a huge amount but a decent amount. So I've been busy.

I updated my resume and sent it to my friend out there.  He sent it out with a nice cover letter seeing if there was anything for me.  He knows a lot of people who are gov't contractors and are on the hiring side of things.

I'm going to take a resume to Manpower too.  I wouldn't mind doing some temp type of work - a lot of times those jobs turn into full-time (or at least a part time permanent)

I applied for 2 jobs at Booz Allen Hamilton out there.  We'll see if I get a bite.

Have you updated your resume?  It wouldn't hurt to give yourself some time to get it "just right" and see what's out there.  Luckily for me I had applied for a job with the Postal Services' OIG last year and had mine pretty good.  Just had to do some updating and fine tuning.

I don't think its too early to start testing the waters, but if you are friends with the boss - ask him to give it to you straight so you can plan.
