Hospital gowns

Has anyone here brought their own hospital gowns for surgery?  I am pretty freaky about some things and hospital gowns offered by the hospitals are one of them.  I was going to make a couple of my own to take with me but I just wanted to hear if anyone else has done this.

Never heard of anyone doing that but I guess there's always a first time. I can't think of a reason they wouldn't let you use your own after you're in your room after surgery.

I got lucky and my hospital put me in scrubs, then I had my own night gown after I got back to the ward.

I didn't worry about it, figured if I got something on the gown, I'd rather it be on theirs than mine.

Now, they started me out in their "bariatric size" (read three times bigger than I am) which swallowed me whole.  I could have hidden in it and you never find me, LOL. Wrapping it around me twice was easy. The night nurse was super nice and got me a regular size gown during the night but that meant I had to have two, one to wear backwards for my walks down the hall.

I was told I could bring my own nightgown/pajamas but I didn't bother. I didn't want to have to wash anything out of them that I might get on them.

Any facility that is safe will not allow you to wear your own gown into the operating room!!!!  There should be absolutely NO acceptions to this rule!  It's unsterile and could give you a nasty infection.....that being said most facilities will allow patients to bring in and wear thier own gowns for the remainder of thier stay......One thing I've seen some facilities doing however is banning all outside clothing, bedding, and pillows because of outbreaks of bed bugs that can be caused by one person bringing in something from the outside!

On a happy note......many faciities have started using "bear hugger" gowns for patients that are having surgery.  these are disposable gowns that are able to be filled with warm air!!  Very nice too, my hospital uses them!

Sorry to say but there is no way they would allow you to bring your own hospital gown and wear it during your surgery.  You could however wear it after your surgery.

Good luck

I think I packed a gown but never put it on.  I wore 2, one front ways one backwards for my walks.  Otherwise, I didn't even open my bag until I was getting ready to go home.

I had the bear hugger gown before surgery but was so distracted by the six (!!) attempts at getting an IV started I could have cared less what I was in.  I did bring a robe which I wore for my walks in the hall.   I thought I might care what I looked like but honestly I didnt.  Good luck to you!

Thanks to everyone for the information.  I guess I wasn't really thinking about the gowns for surgery but for after while in my room.  I am hoping I am in a happy place while they prep me for surgery and won't care if they walk me to the O.R. naked. :)

I really am not worried about how I look but it is more of a "crazy" phobia thing I have for clothes that aren't mine.  I thought pajamas might not work out since there will be drains and an IV.
