Have any of you had an bowel obstruction?

At urgent care clinic tonight due to severe constipation.   Milk of mag and two enemas caused a lot of diarhea but not a big hard stool to come out (sorry for TMI).   They want me to take miralax tonight and then call surgeon tomorrow.  Have x-rays.  There is a possibility of developing an illeus or a bowel obstruction.  This is worrisome.  I am praying this is constipation only and feel that I may need to be disimpacted.  I have never really had constipation before so this is very new to me.

I know many of you have dealt with constipation.  Any thoughts?

I'm swinging for you.  My constipation is tiny in comparison to others.  Hot coffee with benefiber keeps me going.

I tried coffee this morning Price (along with Muscle Milk which caused diarhea pre-surgery).  A lot has come out but not the large BM that was seen on the xray.  This has been a fun day and tomorrow is my first day back at work.  Thanks for the swinging lizards....I need them!

I had a bowel obstruction 3 days after surgery and nearly died. This is not to be taken lightly! If you are in pain get immediate medical attention. I was in the hospital when mine occured. They kept telling my husband it was pain/gas from surgery but it didn't let up no matter what I did. My heart rate went up. I got a fever. In the middle of the night they did xray. They finally decided they needed to go back in. I had emergency surgery early Thanksgiving Day. They told my husband that if they hadn't done the surgery when they did I may not have made it. Please don't ignore your symptoms especially if you are in any pain.

I'm so sorry you are going through this!!!    I'd take the miralax like they said and drink lots of warm drinks but if it doesn't get any better I'd go to the emergency room at your local hospital.  I think there is just so much they can do at those urgent care clinics.

I'm 2.5 years out (RNY)  and I have had constipation alot but  until recently it hasn't been severe.

I definitely feel your pain!!!  I had my gall bladder out last Thursday and last night and today I have experienced the worse constipation and pain that I have ever had to endured.  I honestly thought I was going to pass out several different times during the night from pushing so hard.

I've drank hot tea with real sugar and miralax in it several times today plus my limit of colace and I've had a couple decent movements but still feel uncomfortable.

(((HUGS)))  Keep us posted!!

I know EXACTLY what you are going through! I ended up having to dig everything out because it wouldnt on its own. I had taken a laxative and was surprised. The pain was worse than having a baby and I felt like I was trying to pu**** out. In fact I almost called 911 because I almost passed out between the pushing and the vomiting. I am now taking colace everyday and drinking everything warm, I cut out protein coffees until I get back to somewhat normal. Good Luck and I hope you go really soon.

Oh I can so relate!  I actually have a designated "poop spoon"!  Thankfully I haven't had to use it in quite a while.

I find that 2 generic colace twice a day and a Flax Muffin or Toast keeps me regular and soft enough to "go" without too much straining.

Try using a suppository with a laxative.  I buy them at Walmart.  I use two at a time.
