Rice v/s mashed potatos....which is better
You've got some great answers Stacey. I'm going to try some of those cauliflower recipies.
I don't think any carb is bad for you occasionally if you can stop at a couple of bites and then push the plate away. They key word is occasionally.
I've hear the swelling rice stories too, but I can't imagine that 2 bites of rice could swell enough to make you uncomfortable, but maybe I'm wrong.

I think that, when you are eating a TBSP, it really doesn't matter. But, if you eat more, I would go for mashed potatoes over rice but only if it's white rice and if the mashed potatoes had the skins in them.
I really limited these things when I was early ate but I did eat them. A bite or two once in a while is not going to derail you. It's when the bite turns into many bites and the occasionally turns into frequently that it's a problem.

I eat both .. usually brown rice or better yet wild rice mixed with brown rice ( i tend to brown it first to pop the outer shell and bring the cooking tiome from an hour and a half to a white rice like twenty minutes ) and the occasional organic usually heirloom baked potato skin and all with fatfree sour cream , fatfree promise n buter buds and fresh chives from the garden.
Honestly though, since my surgery I lost the taste for both ..I used to be a HUGE rice and beans eater ( in BOTH senses LOL ) .
I guess I was somewhat healthier than people who ate fat and fast foods routinely but boy was I a chunk !
I do think I can still get away with a carby meal occasionally as long as its really fatfree and far away from my protein and fat containing meals .. a la Suzanne Somers . It works for me anyway .
but then again ... im not 108 lbs as my agents wish i would be and remain lol
