And I HOPE I don't have another one like it in a LONG time!!

On my way to work this morning I hit a deer.  BUT- while I knew I hit SOMETHING I didn't know what I hit.  Why you ask?  I was checking my blackberry... Actually I was trying to lock it and it wouldn't work... then BAM... I hit something.  I look in the mirror and see snow flying.. Hmm.. wondered if I hit a block of snow/ice... no - the roads were clear and the snow was WAY off the road.  I got to work, checked my car and went hysterical, calling Tom and saying "what do I do NOW?"  He said go back and see what you hit.... so I did.  Found the pieces to my car that broke off and the poor deer in the ditch that didn't make it.  At first I wondered if it was a board in the road but I didn't see the car in front of me swerve... then I wondered if it was someone on a bike, or someone walking and really freaked out!!!  When I found out it was a deer I felt better... at least I wasn't going to go to jail.  Lesson learned - NO BLACKBERRY OR TEXTING ANYMORE!!  Oh, and I was told tonight it wasn't snow but DEER HAIR that was flying... ok - I see the correlation since it was all over the side of my car and stuck in my wheel well.  They figured it flipped up under the car since I have stuff torn from under.  Can you believe I didn't see ANY of this happen???????  After thinking about it I was thinking it was probably good I didn't as if I did I may have swerved into the other lane to avoid it.  Luckily for me there were no other cars around.

So 2 hours of my morning were getting the police report and estimate of how much it would cost to fix - get this - $2800!  SO glad I have full coverage and its covered under comprehensive so my deductible is $100.

The BIG part was today I was supposed to sell this car!!  It is a Jeep Grand Cherokee I had given to my son 18 months ago when I bought my Trailblazer.  The ONLY reason I drove it was because I had an extra set of tires for it in the storage unit and figured it would be easier to put them directly into the Jeep, than transferring them from the Trailblazer, etc.  He wanted to sell it and buy a Suburu Outback.  I said ok...

The guy that was going to buy it still did.  He owns the used car lot that wanted it - and has a body shop on board... so he still gave me my money, took the insurance money and sent me on my way.  I was ok with that!  So was the insurance adjuster.  He'll make some money from it.

Then as the day progressed at work the worse it got.  Had a spreadsheet open and making graphs in MiniTab... started wondering why my graphs were looking alike then realized my data was copied wrong... so I went into my spreadsheet and double checked and it was ALL wrong - and I had given a presentation on this just the other day - OH NO!!  Then I started correcting the data, then after saving it realized I had the WRONG TAB OPEN ON THE SPREADSHEET.  That was when I said "I'm done - there's tomorrow to fix this"... My brain was FRIED!!

I'm SO glad I get to work from home tomorrow.

Talk about a bad day Jody.  Glad you didn't get hurt.  It is amazing that he still bought the jeep!!

I've had days at work that I should have just sat at my desk and not touched anything.

I'm off tomorrow.  Hope tomorrow is better for you.

Thanks Linda.  First of all - I DON'T have to get behind the wheel and drive!!  It sure makes you second-guess your driving skills!!

Have a good day off!!  We have a week off in a few weeks and I CAN'T WAIT!!

Man oh Man!!  I can sure understand why you were rattled, but it could have been SO much worse.  Am glad you are okay... Tomorrow will be way better... it's Friday!!

and yea... no Blackberry sounds like an excellent plan...  I know if I'm on my cell, my mind's eye is seeing much different things than the road ahead of me, so I don't do it anymore.  Nothing is so important it can't wait until I get stopped.

Its amazing what stupid things people do when talking on cell phones.  Its funny because I'll say things to them while I'm driving, but I talk on MINE when I drive too.  Of course I don't think I do ANYTHING stupid either...

Its funny because I usually call someone during my commute home everyday - just to keep me company.  What happened to the days when we were happy just listening to the radio?

Dang, Jody!! I'm glad you decided to drive the Jeep--I'm not sure the Chevy would have done as well. Glad you're ok.

Thanks Gina.  I wondered what may have happened if I would have had my son's Prism, which I will be inheriting for the commute when he buys a new car.  I'm thinking the deer may have went right over the hood and probably would have totalled that little car!  I can definitely tell  you that I wouldn't have been wondering what I hit... it probably would have knocked me into the other lane of traffic.

There's definitely something to be said for bigger cars.  The Jeep definitely is solid!!

I was worried they were going to want to total it.

Jody,

I'm so sorry your day was so bad.  Thank G-d you weren't hurt.  A distant relative in NY hit a deer and wound up paralyzed!  I know your story will make me drive more carefully.  Down here I would be more likely to hit a senior citizen than a deer.

As Gina says, BTDT with the spreadsheet.  It's amazing how panicked we can get when something is messed up on the computer!

Rest and relax today, it's a fresh start.

I've heard the stories too about people getting killed when the deer go through the windshield - you never know what will happen.

Time to tackle the spreadsheet again.... need to finish my coffee first!

Well I decided to use your story to try and convince my 28 yr old stepdaughter to stop texting while she drives.  I'm not sure it worked but I THINK my 21 year old doesn't do it.  Then again, I'm probably being naive to believe her when she says she doesn't text and drive.
I've decided it''s best to take the attitude that what we don't know can't hurt us.  She's pretty mature in a lot of ways and I'm grateful for that.
