My new pouch not liking vitamins?

I'm glad to hear you say that.  It seems hardly any docs worry about that.  So many recommend Flintstones, w hich lack selenium as well as other things we need, and most surgeons do not order the lab test to check for selenium deficiency unless you specifically ask them to.  Makes no sense to me.

The Centrum silver chewables do have selenium, but they don't have vitamin K, so either way you'd probably have to supplement with something else.

I asked about the selenium Kelly, and my nut presented me with a list of foods with selenium in it.  When I said, "Ok... I can see that I need to start eating braised kidney with a toasted sunflower seed gravy." she gave me a deer in the headlight stare.

Some days it just doesn't pay to try and be humorous.  Go figure.

Well, there are foods with iron, foods with vitamin A, foods with all the B vitamins, etc. but she still recommends you take those supplements, right?  Well, I sure hope she does.  I think it's unlikely we'll get enough selenium from food, due to malabsorption.

Also, there is kind of a weird thing about selenium. Basically foods get it from the soil you grow it in and some areas have more selenium than others.  I think I read that the Dakotas and Nebraska are high in selenium.  But how do you know where your food is grown?  Sunflower seed grown in Nebraska would have more selenium than those grown in Alabama, though they are all probably higher in selenium than, say, an apple.

My pouch hated my multi for the first month. I actually had to chop it in two and then nibble so it took about an hour to get one multi down. It was fine with everything else - even the b-complex that was huge and I swallowed whole - but it HATED that multi!

Eventually it came to terms with it, and now it's no big deal. Hang in there, maybe try a different chewable or a liquid (if you can find one where the smell isn't an issue), and give yourself some time.

My 'center of excellence' doc is pretty conservative, liquids only for the three weeks after surgery~but I don't start any vitamins until the three week mark. Maybe he feels that we get enough through the protein shakes those first few weeks. I use the Optifit shakes. I got two down yesterday (16oz) and about 8 oz of water so I don't feel that was too bad for the first day home. I can see this will need to be planned out and an all day event for awhile!

Instead of running all over, why not order them all from one place?

Vitalady also has a Chocolate Mint chewable multi that tastes great. It's the only one I could handle when all the rest made me nauseous.
