I have terrible gas still.  It doesn't seem to matter how much I walk it just wont go away. I asked the hospital staff if I could take gas x and they said no that I should never use gas x.  Why would they say that when I see many of you on here saying you take gas x?

I do not think they always know what they are saying.....after my surgery I knew I was allowed lip balm but they kept saying no (they said it was flammable with the oxygen on).....I was patient but was going to "cheat" but when the surgeon came in that evening I asked him and he said it was fine and that I could take my oxygen off.  I am not telling you to ignore your instructions but there are times when, due to reasearch, you can decide to do differently.  In a few days you will feel so much relief from thegas and pain.......hang in there and do what you have to do.  The generalized discomfort gets old I know......but that part will be over soon.

Hang in there!!!!

The NUT and NP in my group told us it was more than fine to take AT the hospital.  Why don't you call your group's office or send a quick email????

Good luck....sending burp / toot vibes your way!

I used the gas x strips that dissolve in your mouth.  No problems.

I used gax x no problems. Also walking doesn't always help. Try rocking back and forth (sitting on the potty esp), and see if you can get someone to rub your back as well. Have them rub up from your waist to your neck.

If they don't want you using gax x while in the hospital, wait til you are home...what they don't know won't hurt them.

I also rubbed my stomach a lot just lightly, especially where the drain was.......it may have only been psychological but it seemed to soothe me.

Hope one of these suggestions helps!

Oh sista do I hear you. I was kinda ok in the hospital (I only stayed the one night) but the gas is terrible now...I just can't sit very long at all. I've been walking up and down our stairs (14 of them!) and that seems to help abit, until it moves around again.  I am hoping this part goes away soon....if I didn't have the gas pains all would be peachy!  Hang in there....we will make it through!
