Good Morning. Japan, it's going to get worse

Please continue to keep the survivors in your prayers and/or swing them some critters. Just reading the news this morning and wondering how in the world you get food, drinking water, shelter and sanitation to that many people over such a large area. My thoughts and prayers are with them and the aid workers trying to help.

I watch the news and cringe and the problems they are facing.  It reminds me of New Orleans and Katrina.  Adding the nuclear issues just makes it exponentially worse.  I lived in Okinawa, Japan for 3 years and still feel ties to the country.  The island has made it through the earthquake unscathed.  My heart just breaks for the entire country.

I have been praying for them since it all has happened and told my husband, I feel like there is nothing I can do to help them.
I agree, how do you get that much food, water and shelter to all those people, it is horrible.
What really makes me feel good is that when you see them in line for items, they are not yelling, pushing, shoving or fighting. After Katrina they were rioting, they have the most patience, I look up to them for that.

I am also encouraging my friend who is stationed there to get her kids and get out ASAP! She was supposed to have had a flight last night but it got cancelled. Hopefully she can get back to Georgia and be safe. I am definately praying for them.

My prayers go out to everyone there and to all who are helping them. I've seen some of the video posted of the tsunami as it rolled in and my heart just drops watching it roll in and nothing is safe in it's path.

The nuclear power plant and it's reactors is an extremely critical issue but you know, the fact that a 50 year old plant managed to survive a 9.0 earthquake and remain standing. That's an earthquake far beyond anything it was designed for and that is something. It was the tsunami that was it's downfall. It wasn't prepared for that punch.

I've been getting my information from the official nuclear sites, not the media sites since the media tends to go into mass hysteria mode.

I'm so sad for the people of Japan.  I've traveled there twice in the last 5 years and love the country.  It's probably my favorite place to visit.  I don't have personal experience of what they are going through and how powerless they must be feeling.  I can only imagine and I know that my imagination can't even come close to their reality.  Being homeless is devastating, Losing loved ones and now the fear of radiation thrown in as well.  Simply too much to process, even sitting here in my jammies drinking tea.  Living in the Bay Area, it's all too clear that we may someday find ourselves in a similar situation, sans the nuclear reactors.  This week the mid-west hasn't been sounding so bad, but I'm really a coastal girl.

My son's best female friend is Japanese.  Her family home is 500 kms from the quake center.  Her town suffered a 6.0 quake that day.  She and her friends (many are artists of some sort) are having a fund raising bazaar on Saturday to raise money.  We have a big Japanese community in San Francisco.

I will continue sending up prayers to everyone effected by this tragedy.

This has been one of the saddest things to watch.  My thoughts and prayers are with them.  How devastating to have everything wiped out at a single time, family, home and friends.  No way to prepare or help yourself.  It is just horrible. I have no idea how you even try to recover from such devastation and I have my faith to lean on.

It is so sad to watch, but then I saw a little couple washing their things and cleaning up around their home and they said they were getting their things cleaned so they could then help others.

It is hard to watch - and I think (from what we can see on TV) the Japanese people are such resilient people.

I lived in okinawa for 18 months... I too feel ties to the country, but never did make it to the "mainland".

Japanese are impressive in their ability to cooperate and persevere in the face of this tragedy. The nuclear industry was clearly unprepared for this disaster. I fear not only for the immediate impact of the tsunami and quakes, but also the longer-term consequences from radiation exposure.

My good friend is a Japanese History professor whose son and family live in Tokyo. He recommended donations go to the Nippon Foundation in Japan because the money goes directly to the relief efforts. The link is: http://members.canpan.info/kikin/.
