extra 5 pounds found (May be gross)
Stacey,
Good sources of fiber are veggies, if you can tolerate them. They are low carb and can help with adding fiber naturally. Fat is also necessary for lubrication and can help with passing the stool. I wouldn't cut that out completely. You need fat for your skin and other physiological functions. If you use a fiber supplement, be sure to drink plenty of water. People have wonderful things to say about Miralax or the generic equivalent.
I use 3-4 colace/day, (one isn't enough) plus I have been adding some veggies. I have also used a medical exam glove to dig myself out, when things are really backed up. A glycerin suppository is very, very helpful to get things started. Sometimes, I also put benefiber in my water or yogurt.
Cheese, calcium, protein drinks are all very constipating. I think the Magnesium that can help with constipation is called Magnesium Oxide and is usually inexpensive. I started using this again and it seems to be helping. I take it, when I take my calcium.
We have all been, where you are. It can be very, very painful. Tucks and other hemorrhoidal cream can be soothing to the inflamed tissues. I went through a bout with this about one week ago.

Oh Stacy! Having been where you were last night, my heart goes out to you.
My derrierre was so sore for a week, I had trouble sitting down, and it felt like I'd misplaced something (like a crowbar) on the inside. And yes, I was ready to call 911 too. My husband had to give me a fleet enema after the first one failed, and he said "PLEASE don't let this happen again!!" The worst thing is the fear that it will happen again.
So my fiber supplement is 2-4 oz of prune juice and 2 colace daily. No fiber yet, cause right now--just a month out-- fiber makes my sleeve uncomfortable.
You can also get prune puree in the baby food aisle.
Hope you feel better soon, and that you find a consti-protocol that works for you. My NP said that there is a Constipation epidemic in the US that no one talks about, but if you look, the pharmacy devotes more space to constipation products than most other issues.
