another complication - when will it ever end? Iliostomy reversal follow up

I saw my surgeon again on Thursday (Not WLS surgeon but surgeon that did all my recent complications - WLS surgeons partner) - she took out all the staples and I do have to say, the ones that were really healed well hurt somewhat but the ones that weren't totally healed, they didn't hurt at all (didn't even know she did it)  There were 2 areas that she didn't like - one was just some type of healing tissue that came through the incision which she used ???? oxide on it and within 2 days it was gone.  The other area is the big problem - she thinks I have a wound infection which is could explain why my pain has been so bad.  thankfully, I haven't had any fevers which is why my nurse and I didnt' suspest it but it has been draining alot.  The surgeon didn't like the smell of it.  She isn't 100% positive but that is what she  thinks and is treating it as such for the next week.

She numbed that area of my stomach and with a scaple, opened the incision a bit, taking out a chunk of skin - if I thought my pain was bad before - I have been in agony since Thursday.  The dilaudid barely touches my pain and I also wear a fentanyl patch.  There isn't much more they could do for me as far as pain control goes - I really need to cutting my dosages, not increasing them - I don't want to get addicted to the stuff.  But, either way, I had to increase it a bit for the past 3 days and I will see how tomorrow goes.  Back on track - once she opened the incision, there was a pocket filled with stuff that she took out - mostly blood and then she packed it.  This has to be done daily to let it drain.  I have to go see her again this Thursday to see how I am doing.  If it isn't getting better by Thursday, then I have to for a CT scan to make sure there isn't a fistula in there somewhere.  I really hope it isn't that because that gets more complicated - I am trying not to think about that.  The G tube is still in but if I need to have the CT scan, it will be good since they can put all the fluids through the tube.

Well, I will keep you posted as thinks continue to unravel.

Randi, I'm so sad to read this latest report.  I was so hoping that your ordeal had come to an end and that you could heal and finally return to your normal life.  I hope that draining the wound will cause some relief from the infection.

Please stay in touch and let us know how you're doing.  I'm sending healing energy and thoughts your way!

Randi, I am so sorry you are having to go through this.  I had a staph infection (not wls related) and had to take four different antibiotics to finally the kill infection.  I am sending up prayers (hope that word does not offend you.)  I am wishing all the best for you.  Hope you are on the mend soon.

((((((((())))))))) Randi . Im a big one for soaking anything that looks yellow in sterilized ( boiled for five minutes with some salt or baking soda added then cooled ) water , softening up the wound and seeing what comes out .

Its a painful process and probably not so recommended when it comes to stomach type wounds .. still I'd be making hot compresses several times a day and putting them on there for say 15 minutes at a time and trying to draw the infection out if I could .... along the suture line ..

the problem is if a pocket of infection gets trapped by the outside drying and healing ( wounds have to heal from the inside out)

I guess I just believe in time tested natural and non-invasive remedies as an commonsense adjunct to antibiotics.

Also I'd be taking a ton of vitamin C which I am sure U are and drinking cinnamon/ clove /ginger type teas because again they have a natural anti-infection effect in the body. Most pungent herbs do actually....
big hugs Ava
