Iron
I didn't get anywhere with poly iron but what has helped me bring my numbers up is Vitalady's Tender iron (carbonyl) capsules and Proferrin ES (heme) iron. I was taking 300mg of the Tender iron with vitamin C in the afternoon away from all other vitamins, whole wheat, caffeine, dairy, calcium, and eggs. I take 1 tablet snapped in half of Proferrin ES. You might be able to get your doc to prescribe Proferrin Forte but I understand it might be on back order or the pharmacy may have to order it. That combo of Tender carbonyl and Proferrin brought my numbers up so nice!
The thing to be aware of with the Tender, you need to sneak up on the full dose. 1 capsule the first week, add other the second week and so forth until you get to the dose you can comfortably take. 300mg may be too much and you might do just as well with 3 capsules of Tender iron and 2 Proferrin tablets. Tender might make you constipated, so be prepared.
Good luck!

I find that Carbonyl iron works great. I started at 180mg and increased to 240mg and my ferriting is very good. You can get them at vitalady.com and they are called Tender irons. They are 60mg of carbonyl iron per capsule and have the necessary vitamin C already in them. So, for 300mg, you would take 5 per day (you can take them all at one time) but make sure you take them atleast 2 hours away from your calcium and thyroid medication.
The original, chew or not, 25mg each, take with your own vit C
62mg caps with built in C
and now a 62mg chewable wafer with built in C
All come in bottles of 400, so very cheapo to buy. I'm still partial to the original tablets, but you know, why fix what isn't broken is my thinking. I will use up a bottle of the tablets when my present supply of 25mg tabs is gone.

What flavor is the wafer?
I have cut way back on my iron intake the past few months while I recover from my numerous sugeries. I really can't afford anytype of upset stomach or constipation. I have never had these problems but don't want to take the chance with the high doses I was taking. So, instead of 240 I am only taking 120mg. It is hard to judge my levels since I have such inflamation in my body from the 4 surgeries - my ferritin was 454 last month. They didn't do my iron for some reason. I am going back to my Endocrinologist on Monday and I will get my labs done again.
