*******Need to add I had 2 small meat balls and 4 chunks of cheese, 3 pea pods, 2 slices of green pepper 2 bites of an apple and 2 small bites of steak**** ( not all at the same time though )

Stacy,
Boil the edamame in salted water for about 5 minutes.  Did you get the shelled or in the pod kind?  You can try putting some spices on them too (Penzey's Old World Seasoning, Chesapeake Bay Seasoning, or even some Green Goddess Dressing Mix without the wet ingredients). They're also good in salad, gives a bit of meatiness to a salad.

Ok so how do you cook your edamame?  I think my DD says she just saute's them and shells while she eats them.  She says the shell is tough and you don't eat that part.  New to me veggie.

The only time I've eaten edamame is when I've gone to a chinese place.

So - this is the first time I'm cooking it.  No, you don't eat the shells. Its like popping peas out of a pod! , but the ones I have are de-shelled, its just the soybeans.  Cooking it according to the instructions which say to boil them...
