Stacey,
I am sorry to hear about your gall bladder attack. I still have mine, and am so scared that i will be experiencing this issue too. Just keep with a bland diet that is low in fat and hopefully April 4th gets here before you know it. Good luck!

I'm wishing you the best!.

I have 2 gallstones that are the size of jawbreakers.  I saw them on my ultrasound for pre-op testing.  I am praying that the suckers stay in a peaceful, sleep state until my surgery -hopefully in May.

Hi Stacey! I just saw this post..having insomnia tonight..lol I hope that you feel better and the 4th can't get here soon enough! My question about the fat thing is..don't we malabsorb like 30% of the fat we eat? Just curious how fat could cause the stones if we malabsorb that much of it.? I am still learning so anyone who sees this and has any info...please post.:)

Take Care Stacey!

Aww Stacey, I'm so sorry you're in all that pain!

As far as the fat is concerned, I was eating Atkins and felt terrific.  Not a problem in the world.  Then I switched to WW and started eating everything low fat etc and BAM, several months later I had my first GB attack.   I ended up having my GB out three months before WLS because i never wanted the severe pain that you're going through.  I would have waited if I'd known my WLS would be three months later.

Feel better!  I'm really sending good thoughts to you and Roz.

I would go to your doctor and ask for HIDA scan, this determines if your gallbladder is functioning.  It is the goldstandard of gallbladder testing.  You could have 1 tiny stone but if the function is no good, out goes the gallbladder.

You said he said to follow through with your surgery on April 4?  Are you already scheduled to have it? or what surgery are you talking about?

Back in 2002-2003 I was experiencing terrible nausea and some abdominal pain.  My gastro doctor did a sonogram the first time and I had 1 stone and lots of sludge.  I was told, there is nothing to do - take Zofran.  A few months later, I had another sonogram and I had 9 stones.  I had a heart to heart with my gastro doctor and he said that I am usually very difficult to diagnose but they always find something, so if I really feel that my gallbladder needs to come, he will send me to the surgeon - especially since within a few months, I developed quite a few more stones and didn't want me to have to wait until it was an emergency - stone blocking a duct.  So, surgery was scheduled and sure enough - 3 weeks after the last sonogram, they said my gallbladder was a mess. I had approximately 25 stones and I was very lucky that nothing got lodged in a duct.

So, if you have lots of stones, it isn't always a good thing to leave them alone.  I would get a second opinion - they grow fast.

As far as high fat food being bad - that is very true.

Hey Stacey!  Sorry that little bugger keeps tormenting you!  Just going to comment on a couple things.  The nurse told you chilli was a poor choice.  Turkey chili is a BETTER choice however, the spice in chilli can make your GB act up.  As far as us being malabsorbers of fat and the fat not affecting us........if you put fat into your body your GB is going to secrete it's fat breaking juices .....it doesn't know you are not using all of your digestive tract any longer......it's just doing it's job!  That's why we aren't exempt from gall bladder attacks........sorry!
