xp Serum protein lab update
I think you could test your theory in 3 months time but you want to have them check your protein serum, albumin and prealbumin. Baseline those 3 and see what happens in 3 months.
Interesting discussion. My dietitian asked my to try only 90 grams of protein via shakes vice 120 grams in shakes about 6 months ago and I was doing that...my protein serum stayed the same but my albumin dropped 2 points and prealbumin stayed the same. So I'm going back to over 100 grams in protein shakes again. My protein serum is still under 7. I've never been able to bring it up into the 7's where Vitalady likes to see it.
I don't see any reason why a sleever couldn't breakdown most non-dense proteins. Dense protein might create an absorption issue early out but the further out you get I would think your absorption should be as good or better than an RNYr.

Eggcellent, than 3 months it shall be. I have a line on an independant lab place and the CMP is not a crazy amount of cash, so I will have that done asap, and then have my annuals out 3 months from that.
That's weird that everything stayed the same but your albumin!
I will see and I will update here, in case its helpful to anyone later on.
How much under 7? Mine was smack dab 7 before surgery, and then a year out it was 5.3, with 6.3 being the low normals on those labs.
Thanks Gina!!

Let's see pre-op protein serum was 6.5 and albumin was 4.3. 1 year out 6.1 and 4.4. 2 years out it was 6.3 and 4.4. Two and a half years out it was 6.7 and 4.7. Three years out 6.3 and 4.6. Three and a half years out 6.3 and 4.4. My prealbumin has been just over the top of the range at 40 for the past 6 months. I got the impression from my dietitian she looks more at albumin and prealbumin. You might want to verify that prealbumin is in the tests you want to get.
Vitalady's goals are 7s for protein serum, in the 4's for albumin, and 20 - 30 for prealbumin.

I have always eaten papain pills and acidopihius / probiotics chewables je cuz I LIKE them ( and love what they do for my skin)
I also take the occasional horse chestnut exract pill when I feel a pinching sensation in my legs .... thats from the little valves not opening properly and is the cause of varicose veins /broken capillaries .
Taking Horse chestnut ( or venastat) regularly will keep them at bay even if U work on Ur feet all day I've heard from a stewardess friend .
I dont have varicose veins either thank God and my family is rife with them so I'm doing SOMETHING right . .
This IS an interesting discussion . As far as protein eating goes I have been trying to low carb it ... and am running into my usual stumbling block of being revolted by meat ( and even fish) after a certain period of time.
I'm naturally a semi-vegetarian just by PREFERENCE . In addition Im trying to stay away from dairy because of estrogen issues .... so I'm really up the creek lol protein wise . Without rice and beans ( another beloved staple but so carby ) .... and cheese ... well U can IMAGINE the dilemma.
Interestingly enough the shakes don't seem to trigger my natural " yuck I can't even BEGIN to look at that " response .... thank God .
