So I had my annual physical today....all is well...except for my cholestrol which is a whopping
267...OK well...I have lost 70 pounds and am at regular BMI and my cholestrol is through the roof!
It was a bit high last year before surgery and not they want to put me on statins...obviously...
this is clearly genetic cholestrol and NOt diet related...so do I take LIPITOR as prescribed or do I ask her for CRESTOR...the reason being my husband told me LIPITOR causes weight gain! YIIIKES>.
ANY input any of you can give me on this would be tremendously helpful...also I will call my surgeon about this as I'm sure he has had these questions...but I thought I'd ask you guys because you're the best...SEAVIEW

Okay, according to what I just read, NEITHER of them cause weight gain.
Lipitor
Crestor

Not sure where your husband got his info. I was on lipitor for years and much prefered the BIG guns of it over the results I got on any other drug.

I just had my 6 month labs done a few weeks ago, and my lipid panel was TERRIBLE!!! Most people's lipids improve and my worsened. I have lost 90+ lbs and my cholesterol is higher now, than it was pre-op. My PCP did increase my thyroid a bit and ordered a repeat to be done this month. So, I'll probably be placed on a statin. Bummer, but at least I feel good. LOL!!!

;I was on Lipitor for years and was fat but I don't think I can blame it on the drug.  I was taken off with surgery but will find out Monday if my cholestrol  is down enough to stay off.  I know at least part of mine is genetic but we'll see how much.
I didn't have any side effects from the Lipitor and will go back on it if needed.  My father died of a heart attach at 49 so I'm not going to mess around with it.

stick with lipitor.  I have never heard of weight gain with any of the statins.
