Good Morning. Sad and scary day at work yesterday

Yesterday was not a happy day at work. At least 10 people at corporate were laid off. Those of us who are lucky enough to be covered by a contract are still on board...for how long, I don't know. I sit right outside the boss' office and every time he would close his door, get on the phone and come out--I just wanted to give him a hug. He and I worked together as action officers so he is a friend as well as my boss. He has worked so hard, I'd hate to see his business fail now. So, please swing some lizards and send up a few prayers for small business owners and their employees right now.

If I thought I could do it I'd retire, but I have no idea how to do that without my military retirement and it doesn't kick in until I turn 60--4 more years come July. Oh, please let my job last that long

Yeah, I patted his shoulder yesterday as I was leaving and he was on his cell phone. He stopped talking and just said it sucked being him today. I do hurt for him.

My business is based on Medicaid. And we know what most states are doing with Medicaid right now, trying to find any and everyway to cut cost because the states are broke. So last year we took a 5% cut and expect another one. But we all keep saying, at least we still have jobs. And handicapped folks who need services aren't going away.

I'm seriously swinging that your job picks up and you stay employeed.

i'm so very sorry you're going thru this! several years ago i went thru something similar. i found it was hard to be the worker that was left behind. i grieved over those employees that were no longer there and i also...in a weird way...felt guilty that i still had my job.....and wondered every day if that was the day i'd lose my job! it was awful!

Gina - so sorry to hear that. Its so hard in this economy and zi really feel sorry for kids just starting out. I'll find out March 25th if my job is gone or not and what is going to happen after that.

Why does your military retirement kick in at 60? Can you choose a deferred retirement option?

On a good note - I GOT INTERNET AT THE HOUSE NOW - WOOHOO!!

I had my computer tethered to my Droid, which seemed to work pretty good for awhile but then started dropping all the time. Had to get on the phone with customer service last night and got it going - AND - the guy was in the US!! I was worried about that... then I hooked the wireless up - SWEET!

Heading "downstate" today for a follow up Dr's appt. There's snow/freezing rain/rain today - will be a messy drive. I'm also stopping on the way back and dropping off a washer/dryer to my folks.

Hope your day is better today - give your boss a little hug.

Im so sorry for everyone laid off, it is hard to get any job right now and everyone is suffering so bad. Gas prices, food and everything rising noone has the money to support anyone.
I pray you will be a lucky one for a while yet.

Ugh! A very tough day at work for you. When I hear stories like this, I feel guilty for not liking my job. I'm grateful to have one. I'm facilitating training this week. It is a part of my job that I really enjoy. I'm not hating it so much today.

I feel for your boss too. I've done too much of that in my day. It is not fun.
