Size 8 to 12

I had RNY 3/2005, TT 11/06.  At my lowest I weighed 125, now I weigh 133-135. I have been as high as 145.  I am 5'1"  I have several pairs of size 8 pants that I can not wear now.  Now I am buying size 12.

Yesterday, I saw a new primary doctor and mentioned this to her.  She said something about maybe I have gained more fat.  I saw my surgeon's PA last week who said my % of body fat is 31.9.  She said it was 33 six months ago when I was in that office.  My BMI is 25.  Anybody have any idea why I have outgrown the 8's.  I hate to mention, but I am 66 years old.  ugh.

I would love to get back in the 8's, but I can live with the 12.  I sure do not want to get into 14's.  PA suggested I try yoga and pilates.  I walk 2 miles most day and have been going to a few easy gym classes.  I had a hysterectomy in November and am just now getting my strength back.   Any suggestions why I have changed sizes and what I can do about it?

I was thinking the same thing. When I was 22 I weighed about the same as I do now, 136 and I wore a sie 3. Back in the *cough* 80s the sizes were smaller then they are now due to vanity sizing. After I had my son I got back down to 136 but I could not fit into those pants again. I think I wore like a size 6 at that time. Now I am in a 6, too, but like I said, 6s now are bigger then 1985 6s.
I just don't get the whole size thing. I think it has to do with aging and fat redistribution. Also, maybe at least in my case it was because pregnancy changed my anatomy, made my hips bigger?

When I married at 20 I weighed about what I weigh now, 133, and wore a size 7.  I had grown us on a farm and had worked hard.  I had lots of muscles and was really toned.

I know babies, age, gaining/losing weight and muscle/tone, etc have taken its toll on my body.  BUT I sure would like to wear those 8's again.  Guess, I should take them to Goodwill and forget about them, BUT...

I will keep up the fight and never give up!!

Good luck on your journey.  It is amazing.

First, congrats on doing so well for so long.  I don't have any answers but here are some thought.

My friends who are smaller say even 5 lbs can change the way their clothes fit and the size they wear.  So the 8-10 lbs could be part of it.

I also hear about weight redistributing and maybe that has something to do with it.

Anyway, BMI of 25 and keeping your weight off for 6 yrs is wonderful and you are sure to be pleased.

I am pleased.  I just do not understand this redistributing talk.  My husband and even the PA at surgeon's office comment how thin I am around my collar bone.   Unfortunately, I sure have collected a lot of wrinkles on my face.  I am always given the 'senior' discount.

I do not mean to sound like I am not complaining.  I count my blesses daily.  Ruby

Hi Ruby,

I'm started doing both Pilates and Yoga after the first of the year.  While my weight is not changing much, I am noticing more toning in my arms and legs.  I prefer the Pilates and take 1 class a week for now, but find myself doing it at home several times a week.  I love how my body feels when it's all stretched out.  I've been taking floor pilates and tomorrow I'm going for my 30 minute introductory class on the Pilates Reformer machine.  I signed up for 5 classes using the Reformer machine.  I say it can't hurt to take classes that will make you feel great.

I don't know about the sizes and weight stuff.  I'm still on my way to goal.  Good luck!!

My gym offers a class called Centergy--combination of Pilates, Yoga and TiChi.  I am not very good, but I keep trying.  I have some old Pilates and Yoga tapes.  Think I will stick in machine.  Maybe I can stretch or whatever as I run the vacumn.

Good luck on your trip to Goal.  It has been an amazing journey for me and continues to be after all years.

Hi Ruby!

I'm 5'3", my lowest was 121, with my goal of 125 - I'm now 131.  My size 4's are barely just fitting me now, since the weight went on my hips and butt.  I really should be in 6's, but don't have any and don't want to buy any...

You also have probably experienced the "redistribution" of whatever fat you have left - as I have.

I'm really working on getting those 6 pounds off to get back to 125.  I know though, that it won't make my 4's fit me like they did last summer, but I'll be ok with it....  Its amazing how 6 lbs can affect us now.  6 lbs when we were fat didn't make much difference at all it seems....

Good luck!  I know I quit exercising because of a couple of surgeries last Nov and this Jan and that's a big part of it.  Toning will make a big difference.

I hear this word, 'redistribution' but I do not understand it.  It is amazing to me how 10 pounds can make two sizes difference.  The first place I could tell I was losing weight was in my bottom, now it seems to be collecting there again.  ugh.

Oh, well I know I have been blessed and I am VERY thankful.
