One of my posted goals is to take a yoga class.  They offer one for free at my apartment on Monday nights.  Well tonight is the night.  I'll feel the fool, but I'm going anyways.  I still can't really sit on the floor crossed legged for very long, but I can do downward dog.

There's lots of poses in yoga - and its about doing the best you can!  Don't worry about feeling foolish - as there will be many other people there too, I'm sure, that will feel the same way.

I'm anxious to see how you like it.  I'm thinking about doing yoga too, but I'm not sure I can give it the right kind of meditative concentration.

I fell in love with yoga postop! A good yoga teacher will work with you and modify poses according to your ability. Enjoy!

Congrats in taking a step ( or a pose) for one of your goals.
Yoga comes in all sorts of flavors.  We even have hot yoga here at our Evolve Yoga studio.  They increase the heat in the studio to nearly 90 degrees so you sweat.  I'm lucky that one of my getting-closer friends is an advanced yoga teacher. She's calmed my fears about yoga.

Take a good attitude and a willingness to be a beginner, and you'll be fine.

We have hot yoga at the J too.  Is everything the same except the heat?  I noticed the class here runs for 90 minutes.  All the other yoga classes are only 60 minutes.

Not sure.  The hot yoga classes started just a few weeks ago, just when I was preparing for my surgery.  This is what the class description says:

Hot Power Yoga is based on the Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga method and teaches to many levels allowing beginner, intermediate and advanced students to be challenged and comfortable. This practice is a combination of different yoga traditions and is practiced in a moderately heated room (85-90 degrees). Power yoga will dramatically build self-confidence and open channels to a calmer and content spirit while also strengthening and toning the whole body. Please bring your mat, a water bottle and a large towel.

Depends on the hot yoga. Bikram is the most common hot yoga and it is a little different. They  have breathing excercises built at the beginning and end and the order of poses is exactly the same every time. Temperature is 105. Non-Bikram is often a combination of other forms of Yoga in a room that may range from 85-105 degrees. I love yoga. Have fun and focus on yourself.

Have fun at your class!!!  I went to my first class at a rec center and found that I knew the instructor!  I used to work for a temp agency and she was one of our temps!  It was hysterical because you are supposed to be all relaxed and zen and in the moment and I could not stop cracking up that I ran into her.

It was an awesome experience...hope you have one, too!
