To Carb or Not To Carb?

Hello everyone! It has been awhile since I posted, but I haven't been very far, I do read what everyone is doing every day! But, I need a little advice. Still going strong for 11 weeks, the last 2 have been slow... I figure I'm struggling with a stall. Still exercising on my own (walking) about 4 times a week..... but on to the issue :)
I signed up to do a study with my local University about nutrition, stress, and exercise. We talk about all that stuff and I get a free 10 week membership to the gym with a trainer. Awesome...I can't believe I'm out of my shell....but the nutrition lady is all about CARBS! She wants me to have them 3 times a day.....eeek! Granted I do get carbs from my beans that I eat frequently and slight veggies....but oatmeal everyday is for the birds! I have explained that when I eat carbs, I crave carbs. She says this is impossible....so does anyone have any suggestions for me to incorporate. A few carbs that won't fill me up, but has tons of fiber? I have been banned from green beans....because it was the only real veggie I was eating:) Thanks all Sherry

I'm guessing she has never had a weight problem or a problem with craving carbs in general.  I definitely crave carbs after I've had some and if they don't show up on the scale then it's even worse.

What suggestions does she give for your daily carbs?

During the losing stage I very seldom ate "bad in my eyes" carbs like pasta, potatoes, rice, bread etc.
I ate  (and still do during maintenance) a lot of "good" carbs like fruit, beans, and  vegetables.  My favorite as most know on here is Wendy's chili (which I haven't had since my stomach attack) and Bean/Bacon soup.

During the maintenance stage I've just recently added some whole wheat and grain products but I have to constantly keep in mind what I'm putting in my mouth and I watch the scales very closely.

Legumes/beans, sweet potatoes, fruit, anything whole and unprocessed. This was just posted on the VSG forum. Maybe you should show it to her. :) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kristin-wartman/a-big-fat-debate_b_831332.html

I've gone back and forth.  My plan allows for potatoes, grits, ww pasta, brown rice 2x a day, 1/4c servings.  That is what I was doing in Jan.  Only lost 4 lbs.  Since then I have gone to almost no carbs for a few weeks and now to only "good" carbs, veggies, beans.  Still no grains or potatoes, even sweet potatoes.  I have lost 2 lbs a week since starting to watch the carbs.  I have been trying to get some good veggies in at least 2x a day and upped my protein to 100 at least, but that has been working for me.  If she wants veggies, I think you can do that fine.  If she wants grains and fruits, maybe yes, maybe no. I don't crave them but it sure did seem they were slowing my weight loss.

If your weight is moving, I wouldn't change the way your eating (been there done that before)
OK, maybe adding green vegetables.  Many people run well on carbs, I usually find them to be more ectomorph in body type ... and they can be kinda pushy about it :-)   Many of us find that we gain or slow weight loss when we had processed cargs (oatmeal would go in this category for me)

Thanks guys! I kinda had a feeling that she never has had a problem weight wise....I think I will just stick to the carbs from beans and veggies...I just think rice, potatoes, and pasta are the devil for me! Sherry

Sherry,
May I respectfully submit that you filter the info you get from the nutrition lady through your own body's experiences?  I find that my BS meter occassionally gets pegged from these so called experts.  I have a NUT who has a master's degree (in nutrition Ii think?) and she's is AWESOME.

Here is a link to an article on her site explaining why we should limit carbs.

Makes sense to me.
