Anyone who was allergic to Morphine, demoral and codeine?
I am and this wa a major concern for me. They will just use non-narcotic pain relievers. I had my surgery in Mexico and there they usually do not use narcotics there so it was not a problem. My pain was well managed except for gas pains as these only improve as the gas is released.
Please make sure you let everyone know you are allergic and still check when they come to medicate you. When I had my C-section I had a bright pink bracelet given by the hospital saying ALLERGY TO MORPHINE and all my papers had the same info and even though a resident came there and prescribed MORPHINE. We always need to be on top as some of them are overworked and just do not pay much attention.

They've got more pain meds than you could possibly have pain. No worries. Just make sure your surgeon notes the allergies and recommendations on your chart when you see him/her before surgery. I told him if something wasn't working for me I didn't want to have to wait while the nurse contacted him and had him call in a prescription for something else and yada yada yada.. He assured me pain control was a priority.
True that the gas is more painful than anything else. Walking as soon and as often as you can helps to work it out of your system. There was a little incision pain but nothing felt from the work done internally. I freaked out over nothing and my surgeon was kind enough to let me figure that out for myself instead of telling me I was over-reacting. :-)
They gave me Loratab liquid (generic Vicodin) to go home with and, even though vicodin 7.5 mg in pill form is like baby aspirin to me, the "elixir 7.5mg" is quite different and definitely took care of the pain once I got home.
You'll be fine! :-)
