Suggestions sought: getting enough protein in puree stage

I've been on purees since Tuesday and haven't hit 50 grams of protein this week yet.  I'm fearful of having such low protein counts for three weeks now.

Frankly, I'm sick of the smell of protein powders, and putting it in everything.
I've made two purees, cauliflower (YUM!) and roasted red pepper- eggplant, and put protein powder in both of those, but I get full before I can eat 3 tablespoons of it, and so the protein powder I get is normally <10 grams for that amount.  I put protein in my crystal light, and the taste is so strong to me I need to drink nearly 48 oz before I consume 30 g of protein powder.

I drink a coffee with skim milk and 18 grams of protein powder every other day, but the carbs in milk are high without any benefit of fiber, vitamins, or minerals. Plus, the drink fills me up so that I just don't feel I have room in my sleeve for HOURS afterwards.

(sigh) I remember someone said pureed egg salad.  I'll try that. Any other suggestions for hiding protein powder or getting more protein in my 2 or 3 Tablespoons at a time diet?

Tracey, one of my favorite things to eat during puree was black beans with chicken broth and salsa.  Blend all together, then strain and heat in microwave.  I'm not sure how much protein you're getting right now, but you are probably doing fine.  It's early in the journey and you need to make sure you get your water in.

I haven't used it, but a friend has used low-carb milk. High in protein. I have to do a protein shake in milk in the morning to get my protein high enough throughout the day. I just can't take in the volume of other foods to get enough protein.

Tracey, I'm a month ahead of you and STILL having days when I have trouble getting in enough protein.

I did discover if I made ONE of my protein drinks with three scoops of protein powder (90 grams) and the milk and all, I did manage to get in all my protein in one day. Otherwise, I never made it. It does make for a VERY thick protein shake but it's only one a day.

I don't put protein powder in anything else simply because it makes me gag. I do eat high protein foods.

And I so sympathize with your "no room in your sleeve for hours" feeling. I have that problem too. Only time I actually feel any hunger at all is very first thing in the morning when I first wake up. And that is because I haven't put anything in my tummy in HOURS. Most of the time, I stand in the kitchen and wonder if I REALLY have to eat at all? Cause I feel like I have no room and it's been hours since I have.

Liz, how do you make your protein shake?
BBMaker, I can't find the Hood low-carb milk, darn and rats. Thanks for the idea though, maybe I should look harder.
Sue, thanks for the idea about the bean mix.

The only place I can find Hood low carb milk is Whole Foods but that's a great idea.  You could also use some half & half (maybe 2oz or less) and add water to it before the powder. You'd get less carbs and less fat. I've got plenty of samples of protein powders we got on the DS cruise. If you want to try some, let's get together one weekend soon.

I use milk (Lactaid whole milk for me since I turned Lactose Intolerance after surgery and never liked anything but whole milk anyway) in a blender bottle. The protein I use is the EAS Whey which is 23 grams (sorry, I thought it was higher but still at three scoops) that's 69 grams + 8 grams in the milk, is 75 grams for one shake. I get either the chocolate or vanilla in bulk at Sam's and then add a DaVinci or Torino Flavored SF syrup and shake it up. My favorite is Chocolate/Kaluha flavored.

Y'all do know that skim/low fat milk has higher carbs than whole milk? If you don't believe me, look at the carb count next time you are in the grocery store.

They have to make up the flavor somehow.

My sister stewed me a chicken and pureed it and it was wonderful and high in protein.  You can mush up fish with some liquid (chicken broth, low fat mayo, greek yogurt?) and it is high protein.  Plus cottage cheese, greek yogurt are already ok without protein powder.  You can add protein powder to SF pudding.
I've heard that drinking protein from a sippy cup helps you not smell it.
I get 26g in my decaf every morning.  I mix vanilla into warm water and use it like cream.  Don't need to milk.
When we were on pureed, we were to eat 6x a day.  Even 1/4c at a time addes up when you are eating 6x a day.

You're not gonna be able to get in all your protein on food alone--you need protein supplements. How many g of protein per scoop is your powder? You should try to find one that has a least 20g per scoop so that you don't have to take as much of it. The one I am using, Jay Robb egg white protein powder, has 24g/scoop, and I do 2 scoops in 12oz water 1st thing in the morning. It's my breakfast and my snack. I know, I KNOW how you feel about the protein powder. I really, really do. I posted about it, too, early out, and how I thought I would die if I had to drink another shake. But then I realized I was intolerant to whey protein and since I found the egg protein one, I've been better. They're not so nasty. :) Also, I wouldn't worry about the carbs in milk this early out, either. You need to get your protein and fluids in first.
