Confession time

I really struggled with my food today.  I started fine - protein drink and greek yogurt.  At the airport, my colleague ordered a giant lobster roll with french fries.  I did not eat - it was too soon after the yogurt, and nothing looked good to me.

I was upgraded to first-class for some mysterious reason.  I was offered a snack box, and figured that I would eat the cheese spread and a couple multi-grain crackers for lunch.  Well, I did not stop there.  I also ate the mini bag of potato chips. Yes, it was only 130 calories.  Yes, the carbs were surprisingly low.  But what was I doing eating salty chips?

The lesson for me is to buy a lobster roll w/o fries for the plane and take the bread off,   I know better.

This journey requires constant vigilence.  I am worth this vigilence.  So are you.

Tomorrow is a new day.

Don't beat yourself up about it.  We all have done it.  You realized what you did and need to do - just look forward.

i know how tough it is to travel and stick with the program.  The airports are NOT our friends...

Yes, airports are tough.  Thanks for the support, Jody.  I don't want any more secret eating.  The key for me is to own it, learn from it, and then move on.

Amen to the airport thing.  That was the first time since surgery I ate a hot dog (no bread).  It was the only thing that even sounded like protein and no sugar at the airport I was at.  When you add being cheap to it mix, it makes if even harder.

We've all screwed up, more than once.  And will continue to.  Just have to do the best we can.

Yes, cheap is good!  I appreciate the perspective, Price,  My motto is do the best you can and then walk on.  I'm walking, I'm walking!

I think if you learn from the episode it's worth having them :-)
I think the other thing to think about is carrying some sort of snack/food with you in case you
end up in this or other foodless scenarios again   .... I'm still learning to be prepared and not to get to hungry

I usually have a protein bar in my purse.  I tried jerky but it is iffy with my pouch.  Babybel is good when I can get it.  Do you have other suggestions, Amy?  Thanks!

Protein bars make me hungrier.  I carry packets of protein powder, pretty easy to ge****er.
Packets of starkist tuna fish, packets of Justin almond/peanut butter and Scandanavian Bran  Crispbread ... but I'm still working on it :-)
Sublimate(she posts to the VSG forum and the receipe is on her profile page) has a jerky recipe that lots great.

Emerald cocoa dusted almonds in 100 calorie packs.  Find them at Target.  Great for when they pass out nuts and pretzels on the plane.

String cheese

Babybel cheese

organic turkey jerky

In the airport if it's breakfast get a scrambled egg wrap and dump the wrap.

Get a burrito, meat no rice and then just eat the insides

Back east I go to the Burger place, wish I could remember the name.  Get a junior size and dump the bun.  Banner is red and white.  I found it at the DC airport and then in Virginia as well.

Several of the concession places have cheese and fruit plates to go or get a salad and then just eat the grilled chicken off the top.

Order a sandwich that's meat and cheese, dump the bread.

If you crave the chips, order protein chips on the net (very yummy) or cheese crisps that they sell that are solely cheese, or make your own ( i do and they're great) and take them all with you.

Protein bars leave me wanting more more more.

There's a lot of options in the airport but we need to look past the wrappings that they come in.  There is always protein to be had.

I always travel with my big travel mug and herbal tea bags. When the go up and down the rows with beverages, I ask them to fill my cup with ho****er which they are happy to do.  That way I can sip to my hearts content and it curbs my munchies as well.

Was it 5 Guys burgers?

Last June on my way back from my motorcycle ride we stopped at one.  I felt adventureous and ordered a small burger and fries.  OMG did I pay!  I ate way too much and way too fast... The person I was with knew my eating rules and said afterwards "I was wondering why you wanted to go there"... Oh well....
