On the liquid pre-op diet but feel like I am gaining weight

I am on day 5 of 14 and after the first couple of days I lost a few pounds but servisouly now feel like I have gained because today I am work and my pants are too tight.  What is going on?  If I gain on the liquid diet before I have surgery does that mean I will not be able to successfully loose weight after surgery.  I have not even cheated once on this darn diet.

I will tell you like my Dr told me, there is no way you can gain on the liquid diet if you are following it to the "T".
That being said, I only lost 3 pounds on my 2 week liquid diet. I was taking in a total of 600 calories a day and lost 3 pounds!!!
It will be ok, drink loads of fluids, may be holding, and keep pushing forward. Good Luck!

Are you getting close to the time of month?  Are you drinking 64 oz plus your "meals"?  I'm sure you aren't gaining unless you are eating a ton of creamed soups and melted ice cream.  Our body's do things to screw with us all the time.

Nope I just got over that last week.  I usually have a protein drink made with skim milk for breakfast.  For snack I have  either a sf jello or a greek yogurt. For lunch I have of healthy quest tomato soup made with skim milk, afternoon snack is either a greek yogurt or sf jello.  Supper is usually a healthquest cream of soup  made with either water or skim milk.  For PM snack either a protein drink or sf popsicles.  In between these I am drinking water.   I am not used to eating this much.  I usually eat 3 meals a day usually fairly healthy and lower calories and maybe a snack which is usually a cheese stick plus a bunch of water this was before my liquid diet.  I am dealing with the liquid diet I just know that I am starving all of the time. I can fill up on my food but not long after that I am starving.  My stomach is growling and making all kinds of noises.  So I dont know what I am doing wrong.

The liquid diet sucks. It also ****** me off because there is no scientific reason it *has* to be liquid. But it should be high protein, low carb. You might want to add up the calories and carbs in what you eat and make sure you aren't eating a lot of stuff that's higher calorie than you think or is high in carbs.

Nope, it doesn't mean that at all. Pre-op is pre-op and post-op is post-op. Post-op your digestive hormones will change and other chemicals in your brain change and it's just ... different.

Oh, Kim..... ((((HUGS)))

I just kept saying "THIS TOO SHALL PASS" during the liquid week.
Could it be the sodium in all the soup?  Or could you be like me, and milk keeps you from losing weight?  I can't lose any weight if I eat gluten.  And milk isn't much better.

If I can lose weight with WLS, anyone can. Hang in there.

Oh my surgery date sista you are doing nothing wrong. I too lost 4 pounds the first four days and I had hopes of maintaining that and being down 14 pounds by surgery day....that is just crazy talk and does nothing but set myself up for disappointment!

Yesterday I had a required "work lunch" and the only soup they had was clam chowder. I tried not to eat any chunks of potatoes, etc. but when I weighed this morning I GAINED a pound. I'm sure it was the salt...someone earlier posted that you may be taking in more salt with the soups and that could be causing you to hold on to some water.

I started subbing in some organic soups (come in the boxes in the soup section) and they have  much lower sodium and that seems to be helping.

Stay tough. We can do this!

Thanks guys,
I also thing I am getting a bit constipated.  I can go a little bit but feel pretty bloaded right now.  I mean I look in the mirror and can diffently see that I have lost. I think I have done pretty good.  My start weight was 117 but then I had gained a bit before I had my first weigh in at the WLS Center which was 226 but I had done really well loosing weight since then.  Total weight loss so far 27 Ibs.  I am now 199.  You are probably right about the salt in the soups because I don't normally eat a lot of stuff with salt and rarely would add salt onto anything because my hubby likes things a bit more bland, I guess I have just gotten used to bland since we have been married for almost 19 years. LOL  I feel like I am eating more often then normal because of the small amounts and the liquids just dont stay with me.  Plus you are right about the milk I never drink this much milk so I am wondering if I am having a problem with that.

Thanks for the advice ladies I appreciate it.

Should I take a stool softner?

Yes on the stool softener.  It really helps me to try to remember to take one every few days.  Miralax added to fluids can also really help.

I think you're doing great and you're going to be fine after surgery.  Hang in there and try to flush out the sodium with water as much as possible.
