These posts are so funny. They actually had me laughing out loud, especially the licking the ham slice comment! Too funny. I was so determined not to cheat, I seriously was afraid my surgeon might somehow "know"! I also think it was a source of pride to master it.

I weighed 198# on the 1st day of my clear liquids. I weighed 192# the day of surgery. And asked all doctors pertaining to my healthcare if they thought I might get "too thin". It's so crazy to think these things when we were the polar opposite before this journey with our weight. All of my doctors have assured me i will NOT be too thin (and neither will you). My body will know where it wants to be, as long as I am not ill (and I am not feeling sick).

I think your mom is just very worried, and that is what mama's do afterall. She will be so excited for your successes in the months to come! And, try to relax. These pre surgery jitters are almost TOO MUCH! You've done your homework, are adjusting your new mindset and will do AMAZING, I just know it. Take care.

Whatever you do, do NOT put off this surgery! You will not keep the weight off any other way.

Also - if you DO cheat on your preop diet, don't let it derail you. Just get right back on the horse again. Don't use it as a way to put off the surgery.

What you are feeling is completely normal. We all get nervous before surgery. We are here for you. If you need to talk, come here and we will respond as fast as we can.

I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

PS - I am on pain meds for a kidney infection, so if I'm not making sense, I apologize!

 Thank you Liz,
You guys are always so supportive.  So far I have not cheated on my Pre-op diet. I can't say that it is easy but I am doing ok.  I do envy those that can atleast have a small low carb meal at dinner time but I have to do what my Surgeon wants.  She must have her reasons for tormenting me so. LOL

There is actually no reason for a completely liquid diet. You need extremely low carb to shrink your liver so the doctor can work inside of you more easily. If you read on here long enough you will see people debating the whole liquid diet thing.

Having said that, I agree that you need to do whatever your doctor says. You have such a fabulous attitude that I just know you will do great with this surgery!

You are awesome and you are going to succeed!

Thanks Liz,
I am now on day 4 of 14 and still holding true to my Liquid Diet.  The days are getting easier and finding a shake I can stand has helped. Now I know my tastes will change after surgery so hopefully I will find something else that my tiny little tummy will be able to handle post op. :)
Have a wonderful day

Kimkel,
Good for you for not cheating.
My liquid week was 2-8-11 to 2-15-11, so I can remember VERY clearly. I did cheat a bit, had a hardboiled egg 3 of the 7 days and one day had 2 oz of tuna. I didn't feel TOO bad with those protein choices.  I drank over 100 oz of fluid a day.  That really helped my hunger.

The surgeon never said a word about my liver, and in fact said my surgery was "boring" which I take to mean my liver didn't get in his way.  Worst thing of all?  NO ONE weighed me the day of surgery. I was soooo bummed, because I lost 10 lbs the liquids week.

I didn't tell my mother-- but she lives nearly 400 miles away and we don't talk much. I focused on talking to the people who I knew would give me good support.

That's my experience. Your mileage may vary.  I probably was anorexic in my 20's for a couple years.  If you stick around and follow the guidance of our star LW Goddesses like Gina, Lee, Cindy, Jody, Rebecca, etc and many of the newbies just recently surg'ed (Abby, Amy, Amy, etc), you'll lose weight and not your mind, and anorexia will be a curious word-- not your condition.

We're here for you. ((hugs))

Kim,
Glad to hear that Day 4 is going well. I've made it so far and haven't cheated either. Made dinner for the family last night and sat with them and ate my soup. It was great!  Today was going to be more challenging...I have an all day meeting out of the office (I handle legal claims) and they always order in lunch. I was a little worried about what they would all think...then I just bucked up and packed my soup and protein shakes and took them with me. When I got here the secretary took my soup and said that she would heat it up for me and bring it in when everyone else has their lunches. What a sweetie and it was no big deal.  I need to get used to not worrying what others think about what I am or am NOT eating!!

Stay tough....we are almost a quarter of the way there!!!

Oh yeah....does licking a Spicy Dorito count????  My 7yo kept trying to get me to eat one so I just licked the spicy part off!!  (and yes...she threw the chip away!)
