xpost: What I'm learning about my body

Some days I get it right and I'm not hungry .... so I'm working at figuring out what those things are so that I feel less like I'm on a "diet"
Gotta be careful with the carbs per meal, like I can have a Chike protein shake or Greek yogurt, but not together ... and dense protein (chicken, tuna fish) really does work better.
I'm playing with PPIs, cuz some of them are suppose to slow gastric emptying.
And exercise that raises my body temperature in the am, seems to set the tone for the done.
And not letting more than 3-4 hours go between meals, cuz being too hungry sets me up to not be satisifed.

I've always been on a PPI and it does help with both symptoms of GERD and hunger pangs.  Many people who aren't using GERD-prophylaxis experience increased acid which mimics hunger!  I actually do everything by the books: work out hard, eat every 3-4 hours, only eat a small amount of dense protein, and drink lots of water.  What's unfortunate about WLS is that the experience is so different for everyone, so like you describe, you have to go through a period of adjustment to figure out what works for your body.   Most of my friends experienced "head hunger" but not actual hunger for the first 3-6 months after VSG, but there are a couple of us who still experience physical hunger, and we have to work a little harder.  Still, as I've said before and will say again, my sleeve made it "possible to diet" whereas it wasn't something I could get through before, even with my motivation and determination!

Dani, you're really wise for your young age.  :)

I have never lost my hunger either and although I'm maintaining within 3 lbs for almost 9 months, I am fearful of long term.  I am often hungry an hour after I eat even 4 ounces of dense protein.  Good luck!

Me too Dani, the hunger never really went away.  I think maybe I still have more of the Gherlin because of my larger sleeve.  I've been on a diet daily since the beginning of month 2 when I only shed 3 pounds.  That said, it's so much easier to battle the slow weight loss with my Sleevie than it was before.  I'm so grateful for the WLS! I was on a diet every day for 50 years but at least this time I'm doing it in a smaller body.  I just hope I can sustain the low cal/exercise forever to keep the pounds off.

Ick, sorry you're in the same boat. It's tough! I have the same real fear that this lifestyle is not practical or sustainable but is necessary to keep my weight down. I had surgery to have a "normal" life, so I'm hoping that I might be able to stabilize my weight in time

Exactly.  I don't like to write/speak that fear very often because I do believe on some level that we create our own reality and that's not one that I want to create.  I'm hoping for stabilization too!  Let's keep in touch on how it's going.

Hi Danielle,

I remember you always talking about how low you have to keep your calories. I'm sorry that your body doesn't want more calories.  I know you work out hard.  I'm a little surprised that it's still so low, even at a normal BMI.  You've done so great with your recovery.  I'd love to see some pics of you at this new low weight.  Congratulations on really taking care of yourself.
