Ava's version of low carb...

Well I'm trying ...

by anyone else's definition yesterday's beerfest was a carby disaster but for me, Ava the totals are not that bad compared to what I'm used to eating . They served - get this - coors lite and regular - and mustard pretzels free at the jewelry show ! ( enticing people to buy ?! ) of course I could have had WATER ..but whats the fun in that lol

I declined the pretzel but i did have two cups of beer and then a third glass of high-test Belgian beer later - other than that it was meat meat all the way all day and a single piece of fruit .

I was not in so much ketosis that my breath was dragon-like and bagels were dancing in my head but a tolerable level where i wasnt conciously aware of cravings ....

I sure hope this works weight loss wise ( despite the adult beverages ) . It frankly feels a little weird in the sense that im eating so much less FIBER than i'm used to ( I HAVE to eat some figs ya'll - I know theyre carby too .... ) or at least salad....

weight this morning -126 on the ride-it-around-the room-until-you -see-the -number-you-like-scale.

My question is will kinda-lax low carbing work ? because theres not much point to doing it if it wont .In other words does it have to be UNCOMFORTABLE to be effective ? And can adult beverages be substituted for bread occasionally and that still be OK ? because I'm a a grrl who loves her nightly glass of red wine

I think maybe just maybe I just might be able to live with this menu ( whether my landlord who I cook for can live with just meat is another matter lol ) ..... and hubby and FIL whose first question of the day is whats in the oven ?....but anything is possible hypothetically .... including BUYING baked goods which is what they did for years before I came along ...

Just keep an eye on the scale. This year or next could be the turning point as far as your malabsorption is concerned. Be careful.

Gina,
Am I wrong, I thought that we lost the malabsorption around the one year mark..which is why they want us to lose the majority of our weight loss during the first year.

Yep you're right, I think it's 12 - 18 months for malabsorption but we start seeing a little regain starting in years 3 - 5 sometimes earlier.

Ava darling, you are doing fantastic.  The main thing is that you're looking at the scale and looking at what you want it to say to you and then you're looking at your menu and asking questions about what you are willing to do to bring them into harmony.  Some days will be better/easier than others.

Trader joe's makes a high protein bread.  I think it's 5 grams per slice.  It's sprouted grain bread.  I keep a loaf in the freezer but honestly haven't had the urge to pull out a slice since zach was home last August.  It's there as my safety net incase I'm jonsing for a slice of bread.  I find there are so many other choices that I'd rather make these days.  1/2 cup of berries in greek yogurt are around the same carbs.  I don't worry about the fat content and it works for me.  Counting the carbs keeps the sugar low and I function very well that way in my body.

You don't have to give up the red wine but maybe you want to drink it in a smaller glass.  As far as fruit, can you sub the apple for berries.  Are there any leafy green veggies that would satisfy you just as much?  I'm eating a lot of asparagus right now.  Protein and 2 stalks of asparagus and I'm full and don't have cravings afterwards.

I find that on low carb, I need to take 1 colace a day to keep things going.  If I forget, like I have the last several days, I get a little miserable.  I'll be taking it today and praying for the BooM Princess to come visit me.

Log your food.  It's  a staple of OA to plan our food and write it down.  You may find that you get to eat more food if you log it.  Lowering carbs will also lower calories and you'll have room for that big salad that you'd love to eat.  Just remember that low fat dressings have lots of sugar to balance the tastes.  Live dangerously and try a little olive oil and good quality vinegar to dress your salad.

I love watching your process!!  Sending hugs your way and congrats on that scale moving for you!

Adding a touch of toasted sesame oil for dressings and/or using macadamia nut oil is amazing too!

Eggs cooked in it have an amazing flavor.

Oh YUM!  I have the sesame oil but never use it.  Maybe I'll give it a try this weekend.  :)

I used it alone once and it was too strong, ruined the dish, so for safety thumb rules, while depending on the brand it can be too much alone its always good as like 1/4 to 1/2 of your oil that you use in a particular thing.  That has been my experience.

also to put it on veggies that I have oiled, seasoned and roasted.  yumz!
