Did you start your 2 week pre op diet early
All I'm waiting for is the review of my file. I was told I'm not going to have a problem with the team signing off on it. I will be getting my surgery date the week of the 7Th. Did any of you start your L diet early. If you did do you think it help you change over to the diet better after LS? How early did you start it. I was also told the surgery date will be about 4-6 weeks away. I'm thinking the latest I would have it is about the second week in April. I don't have issues with being hooked on soda...So that is a plus
Thank you all so much!!

Heck No. The pre op liquid diet was probably one of the more difficult things I've ever accomplished in my entire life. You have a full fledged appetite and only liquids to consume. It was an exercise in supreme willpower. I was required to have full liquids for 2 weeks prior to surgery, then full liquids for 2 weeks post surgery. It was much easier post surgery because I had zero appetite. Before surgery was a killer endeavor.
What I did do before the liquid phase, is diligently journal my food and liquids. I practiced the 30/30/30 rule. I stuck to 1200 calories (I lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks). I drank 64 oz water daily. Looking back, these were good habits to start learning.

Hi April32,
Kinda funny story. My surgery was 15 Feb, and I started my 1 week liquid diet 9 Feb (a day late). I met with the doc on 8 Feb, and all the paperwork said I was starting my liquid diet that day. NOT. I had planned to eat my "last supper" that night. And I did.
However..... for the TWO weeks before that liquid diet week, I began adding one, and then two liquid meals per day, the first week 1 meal (usually breakfast), and then both breakfast and lunch the second week.
Some folks say us LWs aren't heavy enough for having a hard or fatty liver, and that the liquid diet is not necessary for the liver thing. I don't know if that's true or not, but now that I'm on the loser's bench, I'm so glad I did the liquid diet before hand~~my pre-op liquid diet prepared me--mentally, taste-wise, and logistically-- for my post-op liquid experience.

I am one of those "lucky ones" who only had to be on an all clear diet for the 3 days pre-op. I certainly don't want to discourage anyone from making a healthy lifestyle switch, BUT I'd like to point out that those nonstop liquids get old very quickly! I was dam excited to begin eating pureed and then solid food post surgery! I had DREAMS of it!
I am happy incorporating into my diet a protein shake daily. Usually in the morning, but to do it long term messes with my head. I would rather think it safer to try eating as healthy now as you can. Or maybe playing with one shake a day if you are stoked to get started on that. That's just my opinion though. Everyone is entitled to try what they see as best for themselves.

I wouldn't start it early.....this hard as hell. It is boring and there is some head hunger but the real hunger is hard! I got over 100 grams of protein yesterday and I was still pretty hungry. I do think it is good though to get used to food not being an option for coping in life.
Good luck with your decision and your upcoming scheduling!

JPkermit are when did you start your pre-op diet? I just started mine today and didn't bother me as much today as it is right now. I am so hungry and my head is killing me. I still have 13 days of this before I have my surgery. I have drank 2 different protein shakes and they are nasty. How are you doing on your liquid diet?

I didn't have to do a liquid diet - but a low carb high protein diet which had the same end effect. It was an Atkins and very doable for me, since I was very accustomed to it.
I like the idea about easing into it slowly before the full 2 weeks. It will also "decarb" you so those pains go away. You don't get as hungry that way.
Even now I have to identify what is head hunger and tummy hunger and if I'm eating just because the clock says too. When I eat ONLY when I'm hungry - it made a huge difference. That's hard to do when eating meals with someone is such a social thing. When I was alone, it was easy to do.

I would start walk now ... Will be that much easier after surgery.
I had to do liquid diet plus one lean protein/greens meal ... I started the day of my consult, cuz he wanted 5% weight loss and I know that I couldn't do that in 2 weeks. Even if you don't go completely liquid, I would practice protein first and not drinking with your meals and getting 64oz of fluid a day
