Toxic!?!

Just got a call from the doctor...did my labs yesterday and they said I am in the toxic range for vitamin D!! I live in an area where we don't get much sun so this is pretty surprising. I was 43 last year. Anybody know anything about this? My doctor did say that they are talking about raising the limits from 100 to 150 for toxicity....but he wants me to lay off the extra D that is in addition to what is in my calcium. Anyone else have this issue?? Maybe since I am almost 3 years out my absortion is better? Also my B12 maxed out over 1600 which he wasn't concerned about.

D is fat soluable and stores in your fat cells, B12 is water soluable and what you don't use will wash through you.

Yes - I got a call from my NUT about my "toxic D levels".  Mine was 165.  And yes, they're looking a raising the number.

So - I laid off the D - instead of supplementing 5K every day and 50K once a week, I supplement just 50K once a wekk. We'll see where it gets me.

She gave me a run down on all the problems being toxic with D could cause...  I'm not too concerned.

What I found very interesing though, was I haven't gotten sick since I had WLS in Oct '08.  When I cut back on my Vit D I got sicker than a dog... coincidence?  I'm not sure, but there are studies saynig Vit D can keep the Dr away.  Obviously its NOT the stuff stored in the fat cells, but fresh D running around in our bodies?

Vitamin D toxicity is a bit overrated. That is to say, that there are all these warnings in the literature about it but it's pretty rare and you don't get the bad stuff happening until you're levels are pretty high.

But there really isn't any reason to be over 100 that I can see so it's worth cutting back if only to save some money on supplements.

Mine was 100 at my last check-up so I cut back from one 50,000 IU every week to one every other week. I'm not really worried about toxicity at 100 though.

Maybe back off two a week but ask him for a copy of your lab work before actually panicking. What THEY think is toxic may not be that same as what is actually toxic. Liz

Mine was 123 and my PCP paniced.  Told me to cut out all D until we tested again at 6 mon.  I have cut back but not cut it all out.  I really think I started feeling better when it got up and I haven't been sick since surgery although my DH has had several colds.
