Question for lite weights or whoever wants to reply......

I keep thinking I am only 25 pounds away from 199 ....onderland....why do I want to go get my stomach cut off and spend all of this money ? I keep saying I am not 315 ( what I weighed before having the lap-band 4 years ago ------------ had some complications and had a unfill) .I

I keep saying ok .....I see people loosing 12 to 15 pounds on the pre-opt diet ....why dont I do that and then ....work hard to eat better and loose the remaining weight . Because from what I am reading ...It is still hard work to loose with the sleeve.

I keep thinking I still will not be happy after the surgery with my clothes off because of the extra skin .....if I have any ......now since loosing 80+ from lapband the only area really affected are my arms .....but I have not really tried to tone them .

Any lite weights have these thoughts ....and do you regret having the surgery?

I read a post the other day newly sleeved member who ...kept saying she wish she would have tried harder to loose weight because she was having a tough time .

Please people help me .....I keep thinking ...I am a lazy sack of %&*t who does not want to stop feeding her face ...but rather go get cut up on ......and this is stressing me out even more.........and feeding my face more .

Just to add went to the gym last night saw a trainer .....and he was saying all this crap about the unknown long term side effects from the VSG because its new ................really made me pause and think . OK enough rambling ..................Help me please !

Well, my response may not be what you are expecting, but first I have to say that your comment about being "a lazy sack of ..... who does not want to stop feeding her face...but rather go get cut up on." I think you need to rethink everything, because I can assure you that there isn't anyone on this forum who felt they could just quit feeding their faces and everything would be okay. We've tried everything and the surgery has been a godsend. I certainly don't regret having this surgery and wish I had had it sooner. It is hard work to maintain the weight loss no matter what surgery you choose because it doesn't fix your head. So, whether you are ready for WLS or not is going to have to be a decision between you, your doctor, and your counselor (if you don't have one, you should probably get one).

Surgery is a personal decision. I did it because my health issues outweighed (so to speak) any risks. I had developed type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol.

Really though, I did it because I could always lose weight, but always put it back on and more. I need the help of a stomach that can hold very little. I was a volume eater. I finished everything and anyone else's willing to share. With my sleeve, I physically can't do it. In addition, the part of the stomach removed produces most of the hunger hormone. I do not crave food like I used to.

Long term side effects are not known, but VSG is the least invasive surgery I know of. Nothing is done to your intestines as in RNY and DS and there is no foreign object inside you as in the lap-band.

Skin issues are so varied. Some people, particularly if you are young have no problem. Others have saggy skin and stretch marks at any age for many reasons, not just weight loss.

You are smart to do lots of research and question everything. It is a life changing decision. It took me 11 months and therapy to be sure I wanted to go through with it. Now, I am so grateful I did.

Star, these are all totally a personal matter for you. I said why do something so drastic and I gave my chance a time to do the 'diet and exercise' route...I gave it my best. Even trying my hardest, I couldn't do it. If you are happy where you are, if you think you can do it by another way, do it! Do what is best for you.

I will say that ripping on yourself, attacking yourself, is not the way to be successful. Whatever you choose to do, you need support, from yourself and others.

Best of luck to you as you try to find your path....go inside listen to you, be respectful to you....

PS. I do not regret my decision, it has changed my life and my health. I still have to work at it, work out, be responsible, make good choices...but life is better.

Okay, when I signed into my surgeon's office, I weighed 203. My BMI was 35.2 I JUST barely qualified for surgery. On the day of surgery I weighed 199/BMI was 34.7. Thank goodness they go by the weight you sign into what you weigh when you sign into your surgeon not the day of surgery.

Yes, I didn't have a lot to lose but I have been on diets since I was 12 years old. I am 56. I've probably lost 2-3,000 lbs over those decades and gained everone of them back. PLUS more.

I didn't do this to lose weight altho it is a nice side effect, I did it to get my health back. They do not call it MORBIDLY obese without a reason. It is KILLING us. I had insulin dependent diabetes. I am no longer insulin dependent. I will know in about 2 months what my lipid panel has done. But I suspect that will improve as well. I also had sleep apnea, altho that was controlled, it was coming back. Now I am losing weight and it is gone.

Extra skin can be dealt with if it's the tummy area and your insurance police is written to include reconstructive surgery, BUT you have to have it coded correctly. Other skin, you are pretty much on your own.

You've already been cut up on one time...and had a foreign object added to your body. Whoever your surgeon was, did you a disservice in giving you information. Do your research. Look at all your options and consider how your eat. YOU will be considered a revision and those are harder than a "virgin" surgery. IF you need restiction only, a sleeve is your best bet, if you need both restriction and malabsorption, the RNY or DS is your best way depending on on what your body needs afterward. IF you need NSAIDS or may need them, go with a DS.

But do your research.

YOu are NOT a lazy person. NONE of us are.

Like my fellow LW's I do not have a single regret. I tied almost every healthy and unhealthy diet I would loose the first 25-30 pounds and sit at that weight no matter what added effort I put in I was stuck. I would then gain 30-35 pounds all the way up to 245 pounds. I hated myself for being a failure and I was sick and tired of being filled with self hate and feeling like a failure as well as not being able to be who I wanted to be.  I would strongly recommend you find a therapist that you can sit with for more than a one hour eval. you need to make sure you go over all the options, staying the size you are, loosing by diet and exercise only or if a new WLS is right for you. What is right for you can only be right for you. You will find tons of support on the LW page but nobody here is going to decide for you if surgery is right.
